Chicago PD has a premiere date set, but it’s going to be a longer wait than usual for fans of the drama. Could this be a good thing?

It’s no surprise at all to see the One Chicago shows coming back this fall on NBC. The network has long staked out Wednesdays as the special night for all three hit dramas to unfold, as it’s a good theme, and the way the shows link together makes sense to have them all on one night.

That, of course, includes Chicago PD as the first spinoff of the hit franchise is still going strong and set for a 13th season. The 12th season had left off with some big turns as Voight arranged the death of a corrupt supervisor to save the unit while Burgess and Ruzek finally tied the knot. That will both likely play into season 13 with Voight facing the fallout of his actions.

That has fans excited to see what season 13 can bring them. Sadly, the wait for that to hit will be longer than usual.

When is Chicago PD’s premiere date?

NBC unveiled its fall 2025 premiere dates, which reveal that the One Chicago shows will all premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 1 with Chicago PD at its usual air time of 10/9c. That’s a bit surprising given the shows usually come to viewers much earlier.

It’s true that season 1 debuted as a midseason series in January 2014, but from then on, Chicago PD always aired in September. The first major exception was in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic put off all TV production, so season 8 didn’t premiere until early November. Another change was that season 11 missed its fall 2023 premiere date due to the Hollywood strikes, so it didn’t premiere until January 2024.

Yet it seems off for NBC to wait an extra two weeks to premiere all the One Chicago shows. It should be noted that other networks are doing much the same, with CBS and ABC holding off on the premieres of many of their big series until October. It could be that the networks want to wait for the initial wave of TV to hit, then join in with new seasons. That gives them more time to promote the shows with NFL airings, as well as NBC beginning to air NBA games this fall.

Chicago PD will see some changes for season 13 as Toya Turner, who had joined the show in season 12 as Kiana Cook, has departed. That will bring in Arienne Mandi as Officer Naomi Kerr to spice things up a bit.

Thus, fans of Chicago PD have to wait a little longer for season 13, but hopefully, it will be more than worth it to keep up the hit show.

Chicago PD season 13 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 10/9c on NBC.
