At long last, CIA has found more of its cast. However, with the news that there are two more joining the series, it brings some disappointing news about what was supposed to be the female lead of the series.
When CIA was first brought up, the plan was for a male CIA agent working with a female FBI agent. The latter was supposed to be a by-the-book agent, and we just knew that bringing in an FBI: International character would have been a great way to deal with that.
However, plans have changed, and we’ll no longer have a female agent as the second lead. However, a female has joined the cast as the third lead of the series.

Nick Gehlfuss and Michael Michele join the cast of CIA
Chicago Med’s Nick Gehlfuss is the latest of the One Chicago stars to join one of the FBI shows as a completely different character. He’ll take on the second lead of the series, the FBI agent who believes in the rule of law. This was the role that was supposed to be a female agent at first, and it is disappointing not just for those hoping for Vinessa Vidotto to get a chance to bring Vo back into the story, but for those excited to see a female FBI agent heavily involved.
Gehlfuss joins his former co-star Colin O’Donnell and his on-screen brother Jesse Lee Soffer as actors who have joined a different Dick Wolf series as another character. He will also reprise his Chicago Med character for season 11!
Meanwhile, Michael Michele will join the series as the third lead, the head of CIA’s New York Station, according to Deadline. Her character doesn’t have a name yet, like the FBI agent.
She also comes from another Dick Wolf series, New York Undercover. However, her most recent role was on the CBS series The Equalizer, where she went head-to-head with Queen Latifah’s character.

CIA has been through a lot of changes
It probably isn’t surprising that the female FBI agent has been switched to a male. It does sound like there were a lot of issues with the series, as it went through a change of showrunner and the scripts had to be reworked. It also sounds like there were issues with the casting as the show figured out what it wanted to be.
Now that casting is underway, there is a sign of a positive move forward. Filming is slated to start in September, ready for an early 2026 premiere on CBS.
