Usually, February is a major month for the networks as sweeps generally means new episodes. However, CBS is taking the month off from fresh fare in order to avoid NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics. That means several shows will be waiting until late February or early March to show new episodes, and that includes NCIS: Sydney.

NCIS: Sydney has had a longer break than intended, with the winter finale originally set to air on Dec. 16, 2025. However, at the last minute, CBS pulled that episode hours before it was to air, and replaced it with a rerun. It wasn't clear when the midseason finale would air, with many wondering if it would be added as a special at some point in January.

When will the NCIS: Sydney season 3 fall finale air?

However, it’s now confirmed that the episode “South of Nowhere” will air as the show’s midseason premiere on Tuesday, March 3. And it's fitting to send the team to a very cold climate!

“The team races to an Antarctica research base to investigate why a climate scientist killed a colleague on the eve of polar night – and make it out before their plane engine freezes and they’re trapped in darkness for six months.”

There’s still no word on why CBS delayed the episode in the first place. There was speculation it was because of the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in Australia that occurred in December. It could also be some sort of issue between CBS and the Australian company that co-produces the series.

Either way, no answer was given but at least fans can be assured the show will be back to continue its unique blend of action and drama!

What else is coming on NCIS: Sydney?

The show is a bit coy on other coming plot points. It is confirmed that we’ll be meeting Noah Eid as the teenage son of team leader Mackey (Olivia Swann). That may play more into Mackey’s partnership with JD (Todd Lasance).

We’ll also continue to watch the delightful partnership between Jackson (Sean Sager) and Cooper (Tuuli Narkle), Rosie (William McInnes) dealing with the recent loss of his wife and quirky lab tech Blue (Mavournee Hazel) back at work when the team now knows of her criminal past. There’s also the long-ranging arc of Mackey learning she’s on some sort of hit list and figuring out who’s after her.

The series would need to return with the other NCIS shows, both to maintain its episode count and its ratings. Thankfully, fans know the series has already earned a fourth season renewal, so they don’t have to worry about the axe falling on it. The return should be worth it to keep up this underrated part of the NCIS franchise.

NCIS: Sydney season 3 returns on Tuesday, March 3 at 10/9c on CBS.
