3 TV crime dramas coming back to NBC in fall 2025 (and 3 definitely not)

Summer break is hard, but at least we know some of our favorite TV crime dramas on NBC will return soon.

One of the worst things about May is that shows air their finales, and then we have to wait all of summer for new episodes. Sadly, when it comes to TV crime dramas, NBC has opted to cancel a few of them and that means we won’t get to see more. At least, not in the fall — we’re still hoping for some of the shows to be renewed.

Did you get a bit lost in the cancellation and renewals news? How about in the midst of all the schedule news? It’s easy to lose track of what you can expect to watch come the end of September. We have you covered, with a look at three of the NBC TV crime dramas that will return and three that won’t.

Chicago P.D. - Season 12

Crime dramas returning: Chicago PD

It was never that surprising to learn that Chicago PD would be renewed for season 13. This remains one of the top shows for NBC, along with the rest of the One Chicago lineup. The only issue is the cost of production, which is why we could see a shortened season and some of the characters won’t be in all episodes.

However, the series is coming back in the fall, which is great considering the way it ended. While season 12 didn’t bring a huge cliffhanger, it did close out Reid’s story and make it clear that Voight hasn’t changed all that much. Will ASA Chapman end up turning against him and look for ways to bring him down, or is it just that their romance is over?

Found - Season 2

Crime dramas canceled: Found

I think the worst cancellation of all of May 2025 was that of Found. After two seasons, this important and brilliant series has come to an end. The fight isn’t over to save it, but we can say for certain that it won’t come back in the fall, and it won’t be on NBC.

The series needs to return, though. Due to the abrupt cancellation, the show ended up on a cliffhanger. Gabi turned herself in, while Sir was found potentially dead in his cell. What will the M&A Team do without their leader?

The Hunting Party - Season 1

Crime dramas returning: The Hunting Party

There weren’t many freshman dramas renewed by NBC this year, but The Hunting Party was one of them. Considering the way that the first season ended, that’s a great thing. Now we will get some answers to our burning questions, such as what happens now that the team has been shut down by AG Mallory.

The series will return in the fall, but it’s changing nights. It will now take Found’s timeslot on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. This is concerning, so those who love the twistiness and darkness of this series will need to tune in weekly to keep it on the air.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society - Season 1

Crime dramas canceled: Grosse Pointe Garden Society

Now, Grosse Pointe Garden Society hasn’t been canceled at the time of writing this, but there’s a chance that it could be. The series is one of those that is in negotiations to move to Peacock for a second season. It does need that second season considering the cliffhanger at the end of season 1.

However, even if the series is renewed, it’s not going to arrive in fall. There won’t be the time to get episodes filmed and through post-production to bring it back in the fall, so it would be a winter or spring show at the earliest.

Law & Order - Season 24

Crime dramas returning: Law & Order

Like the One Chicago franchise, there was no surprise to find out that the two shows in the Law & Order franchise were renewed. And yes, both of them are coming back in the fall. Law & Order will return for an epic 25th season, but it’s not yet clear if there are changes from the previous season. All we know right now is that it will still air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

There is a chance that we’ll see a few episodes less this season as a way to save some money. We may also see some of the characters not in all episodes as actors have guaranteed minimum episode counts now. However, there have been no announcements of exiting cast members just yet, so hopefully there is some stability there in this season.

The Irrational - Season 2

Crime dramas canceled: The Irrational

Finally, it’s all about another quirky crime drama, The Irrational. It was another sophomore series that just didn’t hold up against the strong slate of TV shows in the 2024–2025 TV season, and NBC opted to cancel it in May 2025. Sadly, it was after a major cliffhanger, which saw Alec learn that he was being stalked.

This series had a lot of potential, especially with Rose opening her own agency in town. It brought a chance to look at how we all act in times of struggle, and surprisingly, we are all rationally irrational. Having Alec as a behavioral scientist helped to add a new layer to crime dramas.
