Grosse Pointe Garden Society reveals who killed Molly (and it's not who we expected)

After a season of mysteries, one of the most heartbreaking was revealed in the Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1 finale.

We seemed to get an answer about who killed Molly, Alice’s dog, earlier in Grosse Pointe Garden Society. However, this series has made it clear that you can’t always trust what is shown. The big reveal came in the season 1 finale, and the murderer wasn’t who we thought it was.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for the Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1 finale.

The episode picked up a week after the gala, with Patty making it clear to Marilyn that she wants her quilt. Well, as we know, the quilt has gone missing. In the penultimate episode, we learned that Alice, Brett, Birdie, and Catherine were actually destroying the quilt the night of the “murder.” That led to Keith accidentally becoming Quiche, so it wasn’t murder, but they broke the law the minute they decided to cover it up.

Well, right now, Patty believes that Keith is up at the cabin with Doug. That is giving the four some time, but it won’t be long until people start questioning where Keith is. Of course, Marilyn is on the warpath as well because she wants that quilt back to make sure it can go to Patty.

Marilyn gets Alice in on the hunt in Grosse Pointe Garden Society

Marilyn knows that someone with a grey sedan stole the quilt, so that means a hunt for whoever owns it. Alice is pulled in on the case, which should give Alice a chance to cover some of her tracks. The problem is Alice is thrown off by something she finds in the cupboard under Marilyn’s sink.

There’s a certain blue bandana under there, which Alice immediately recognizes. Sure enough, that bandana belonged to Molly, and now Alice has another clue as to who killed her dog. I always said it was too obvious to be Doug!

I don’t think any of us expected it to be Marilyn, though. While she and Alice weren’t originally friends, Marilyn likes animals, and she wouldn’t go out and maliciously kill a dog. So, what happened?

Marilyn shares it was all an accident in Grosse Pointe Garden Society

It turns out that it really was an accident. Mr. Fingers was being attacked in the bushes, and Marilyn thought it was coyotes. We know that she had been having issues with coyotes going after Mr. Fingers before. In fact, the night of the gala, there is an attack.

Well, Marilyn goes out with a pistol and fires three times. Poor Molly. I’m just so glad that Grosse Pointe Garden Society didn’t show us that!

After everything, Marilyn calls Patty over to get Patty to help cover everything up. Patty takes the gun, because it was hers in the first place, and the dog collar. However, she makes it clear that Marilyn has to keep the bandana to remember what she’s done. There is a sense of guilt in there, but why wouldn’t she come clean and explain the entire thing?

That’s even something Alice asks, and there isn’t really an answer for it. Alice and Marilyn weren’t friends at the time. However, one thing is clear: Patty and Marilyn have a much bigger history than they’ve made out to have throughout Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, and now I need a second season to delve into this more!
