Prime Video’s fantastic and most hilarious crime show is finally coming back for season 2 and fans can’t wait to check it out.

Prime Video is home to scores of original crime shows like the long-running Bosch series. It’s also home to a bevy of programming from around the world, as every nation has its own top crime dramas. You can’t throw a rock at a Prime Video screen without hitting some moody mystery set in a small town with secrets.

Australia has provided quite a few such shows, including Deadloch. The series premiered in June of 2023 on Prime Video and was an immediate hit. The first season of Deadloch reached the top 10 series rankings in more than 165 countries and territories including the US, UK and Canada. It was also a hit with critics as it won five AACTA Awards (the Australian equivalent of the Emmys) including for star Kate Box and Best Casting. Creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan also won for their writing.

It’s been a long wait for Deadloch season 2, but Prime Video confirmed that it will debut on the streamer on March 20, 2026. The first looks appear to show how the quirky series is only going to get better!

What is Deadloch?

On the surface, Deadloch looks like any other moody mystery series. Set in the titular town on the country’s Tasmania coast, a body on a beach leads to a pairing between local Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and big-city detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeline Sami). As the pair dig deeper into the case, they uncover a darker conspiracy while both face the bigger problem of the town’s male hierarchy refusing to trust them.

What made the show so successful? It’s absolutely hilarious. It’s mostly black comedy but still wonderful humor in Collins’s straight-laced attitude clashing with Eddie’s completely wild ways with the latter cursing and drinking up a storm amid the investigation. That bond coupled with the help from overeager constable Abby Matsuda (Nina Oyama) sparked up the series. Just when it looked like things were getting dark, a crazy joke or fun scene would lighten things up.

That first season wrapped up the initial mystery well but season 2 looks to heat things up…literally!

What’s coming in Deadloch season 2?

Per the press release, season 2 will skewer Aussie crime shows more. Season 1 was parodying the “Tassie Noir” of cooler climate murder cases while this one will tackle “Tropical Gothic.” Those are tales set in sunnier spots with some darker edges. This being Deadloch, this case will have a lot of laughs with the thrills.

“Forget Tassie Noir—Deadloch is entering its Tropical Gothic era. Detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) are in Australia’s sweltering Top End, aka the Northern Territory, investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. But when the body of a local icon is discovered in a remote town, they are flung into a sweatier, stickier, croc-ier crime case. Closer to South Asia than to Australia’s capital city, our hero town of Barra Creek is a vast departure from Season One’s icy Tasmanian setting. From verdant tropical canopies, red dirt roads that disappear into the horizon, glassy waterways that house 65-million-year-old predators, and sunsets so breathtakingly beautiful that they literally command a standing ovation every night, the Northern Territory’s awe-inspiring landscape and weather shape this season’s look and feel. The heat and humidity are enough to send our detectives into a frenzy, or at least leave them with some horrific chafing.”

Obviously, Box, Sami and Oyama are all back along with Alicia Gardiner as Dulcie’s wife, Cath. They’ll be joined by a bevy of popular Australian actors that includes Luke Hemsworth, Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens. Jean Tong,  Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, and Ngali Shaw.

The first season was an absolute blast as what looked like the typical Aussie crime show turned into a comedic gem while still delivering a nicely written mystery. The growing friendship between Dulcie and Eddie was masterfully done with the actresses giving stellar performances. Seeing a sequel moving to a hotter area of Australia is a nice way to shift things up and give the series a fresher vibe.

The supporting cast backs the leads up and the six-episode run time will help the show’s storyline. If season 2 is half as funny as the first, then Deadloch is going to be a must-watch show in 2026 and continue to build on this surprise Aussie hit.

Deadloch season 2 premieres March 20, 2026 on Prime Video.
