At the end of The Hunting Party season 1, we learned that Oliver Odell was in grave danger. Jenna Wells had placed her killer patch on his neck, and we have spent months wondering if the show would kill off his character or not.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from The Hunting Party season 2 premiere.

The Hunting Party season 2 is finally here. The premiere is in full swing, but we got answers to our burning question right away. So, what happened to Odell, and is he alive?

The Hunting Party season 2 doesn’t leave us wondering too long about Odell

At first, The Hunting Party focuses on the new killer for the task force to catch. Of course, there’s also the fact that the task force needs to be put back together, and we see how Bex manages to force that to happen by leaking information.

With that, we can get focused on Odell’s fate, and it’s not good for those hoping to see Odell and Bex get back together. We get a scene of Bex at Odell’s grave, making it clear that he had died. Either there wasn’t a cure for Jenna’s poison, or everyone was just too late.

It’s a death that Bex will now need to sit with throughout the series, and it’s sure to have repercussions moving forward. Is this the right thing for the show to do? I’ll admit that I’m in two minds.

Odell’s death will have a knock-on effect on The Hunting Party season 2

On a show like this, we need that reminder that anything could happen. Anyone could die, as they could in real life. The Hunting Party took a huge risk by killing off Odell, and of course, people are angry. At the same time, with what we knew about that poison Jenna had used on people, there wasn’t really much of a way around the situation.

What this does do is take out the one person who knew about The Pit to help with uncovering the conspiracy. Odell was the one with the connection to Lazarus, and while he had connected Bex with her in the season 1 finale, there was a lot more for Odell to reveal and share.

This completely puts a halt on the ship that is Odell and Bex. I was always in two minds about them, considering the man that Odell was in the flashbacks, but people can change, right? We have to believe that people who want to change can do so, and Odell did come across as a changed man. So, there was hope for the two of them to be together. Now, that’s not possible, but the feelings were clearly there. Bex is sure to mourn him, but I do fear that this will lead to a certain group of viewers to tune out, and that’s not what The Hunting Party needs right now.

The Hunting Party season 2 airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC.
