Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 3 already hinted that the government might be targeting ex-military men for their mysterious medical experiments. And the new episode seems to confirm it from the very first minute.

For now, Sarah and Zoe are still working on different fronts, but this episode digs deeper into who Downey really is and advances Zoe's investigation with some unexpected help. Down Cemetery Road continues to prove itself a gripping TV crime drama.
Down Cemetery Road clears up some of the Downey mystery
The new episode picks up where episode 3 left off, with Sarah on the phone with Zoe. She learns that the man who saved her is Michael Downey, a former soldier who served with Tommy Singleton. That's why he's trying to find Dinah: for his old friend. But Zoe also reveals that Downey is dead on the record.
When he catches her on the phone, Downey snatches it away and smashes it, only to collapse into a seizure. Sarah panics, trying to help. She finds his pills, saving his life. Essentially, now they're even.
At first, Sarah thinks Downey is just addicted to painkillers; he reluctantly tells her that he suffers from a rare condition and that the pills are an experimental drug. Still, he’s not telling her the full truth. Curious to learn more about the drug, Histropine, Sarah looks it up on the computer in the inn's lobby. — a mistake that immediately puts them both in danger. She still hasn’t realized that “laying low” means avoiding leaving digital traces.
Sarah and Downey team up in Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 4
The website Sarah accesses turns out to be a trap set by Amos's girlfriend, which tracks Sarah's location. Amos calls the inn, pretending to be the hotel manager needing to update files on the "couple" who paid in cash. It's hilariously easy for him to get information from the gullible receptionist.
Amos shows up, posing as a delivery guy, right before Downey and Sarah are ready to go somewhere else. Luckily, Sarah sees him and convinces the receptionist, Sam, to stall him, giving them barely enough time to escape. But so does Amos, right as the police arrive.
Downey had to leave the gun behind, so now they are unarmed and in need of a new car. To which problem, Sarah thinks it'd be a good solution to break into Gerard Inchon's house. Only, he's home and catches them. Gerard's wife, Paula, wants to hear them out and help, but Gerard won't willingly give them what they need.
Downey takes matters into his own hands, stealing Gerard’s guns and Paula’s car, almost leaving Sarah behind. She screams at him that they're a team now, and Downey finally admits the government is after him and using Dinah as bait. Paula and Gerard let them leave.
Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 4 gets Zoe deeper in trouble
Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Ash Varma decides to help Zoe. The two meet in London, where Varma tells her he tried to reopen Joe's case only to have his boss shut him down. But he's not completely empty-handed. He managed to get Tommy Singleton's autopsy report and lets Zoe read through it.
That's what leads her to Dr Isaac Wright. Why would a London doctor sign an Oxford coroner's report? She goes to pay the doctor's office a visit, staging a car break-in to create a distraction so she can sneak upstairs. She steals his laptop and USB drives. What she'll find on those is the following episode's mission to clarify.
For now, we know that Isaac calls C in a panic and gives him a CCTV photo of Zoe. When she returns home, she finds her flat broken into and a final warning: the word STOP written in what appears to be blood.
If Sarah, Downey and Zoe finally team up, they might just find and save Dinah in time. But the government is watching them every step of the way. Will DI Varma help them again? And more importantly, will everyone make it out alive?
Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 5 arrives Wednesday, November 19, on Apple TV, promising answers — and even more trouble.
