If there is one crime drama we’re looking forward to seeing, it’s Einstein. The series stars Criminal Minds vet Matthew Gray Gubler, and we know that it is happening at CBS. This is where we get the bad news.
CBS is currently trying to handle its schedule problem. You see, there are a lot more shows than there are spaces in the schedule, and that has all started to stem from shows being held back. Matlock was supposed to air in the 2023–2024 season but was held back a year. Then Sheriff Country got picked up to series but was held for the 2025–2026 TV season.
To handle the problem, it looks like CBS is following the pattern. And it’s a series Criminal Minds fans were looking forward to.
Einstein is still happening but not in 2025–2026
In some unsurprising news, it’s Einstein that’s being moved to the next TV season, according to Deadline. While it will still happen, it’s not until fall 2026 at the earliest. This makes sense considering the franchise spin-offs are the ones that are landing 2025–2026 slots already. It’s not like CBS would move Sheriff Country back another year, and Boston Blue is already confirmed for fall 2025.
In some good news, it means that the series has more time to film. There’s also a chance to get it ahead of the game, so that there won’t need to be too many breaks in the schedule when it comes to filming needs. This could also mean that it lands a fall slot to give it the best push possible, as it could have ended up in the midseason schedule if it airs this year.
Could Matthew Gray Gubler return to Criminal Minds?
So, with this news, it could mean something else exciting. We know that Criminal Minds: Evolution season 4 is happening, and we also know that Matthew Gray Gubler will return for an episode of season 3. Is it possible that the delay for Einstein could mean that Gubler returns for Criminal Minds season 4 a little? Is it possible that the schedules will work out?
Einstein, as a broadcast show, is likely to film in the summer through to March or April. With a delay in the premiere, it means that there’s more time to get through the episodes. So, that could allow for Gubler to be available for more episodes of Criminal Minds. We can always hope!
Einstein will be part of the 2026–2027 TV season on CBS.
