Elsbeth is sadly not new tonight (and it won't be back this month)

Elsbeth will be taking a bit of a break with the show pulled from CBS's schedule for the final weeks of March.

Thursdays won’t quite be the same the next two weeks for Elsbeth fans. CBS’s quirky crime drama is taking the final weeks of March off, and we have basketball to blame.

March is nearing its end, but March Madness is just heating up, which sadly is causing some headaches for CBS fans. With CBS bringing fans primetime coverage of the 2026 NCAA March Madness tournament, Elsbeth is one of a handful of CBS shows that are getting pulled from the CBS schedule to make room for the primetime NCAA coverage.

This means there will be no new Elsbeth episodes airing on March 19 or March 26. That’s right, Elsbeth will be off the air through the rest of the month with no new episodes coming as March draws to a close. It’s certainly disappointing, but this has been a regular occurrence for Elsbeth, which has been impacted each year of its run by the annual March Madness basketball tournament. And the good news is that once we get through this break, we shouldn’t have to worry about too many more extended breaks in the season, as we expect the final episodes of the season will likely air with limited interruptions.

Elsbeth returns to CBS's schedule in April

Now that we’ve established that Elsbeth will be taking the rest of March off, let’s get to the question on the minds of fans: When does the show return?

Elsbeth will officially be back on CBS’s schedule, with new episodes returning to the schedule starting on Thursday, April 2. That’s right, when we said Elsbeth would return in April, we meant right away, as CBS is thankfully not going to keep the show off the air for longer than it needs to. With CBS’s weeknight primetime coverage of the 2026 NCAA March Madness wrapping up on March 27, CBS will bring our favorite primetime series right back into the fold as April begins.

So what do the Elsbeth writers have planned for us when the show returns on April 2?

As season 3 resumes with episode 14, “Deadutante,” we’ll see Elsbeth thrust into the world of New York’s most exclusive debutante ball to investigate the death of a powerful patriarch who has been stabbed to death. In order to catch the killer, Elsbeth will have to go toe-to-toe with the ball’s director, played by guest star J. Smith-Cameron.

Fans can expect Elsbeth to throw herself into the debutante world and throw herself into the high society world, and, yes, there will be a stunning floor-length white gown and some equally stunning accessories to complete the look! Of course, she won't be on her own with the investigation, as Britne Oldford will return as Detective Nina Taylor to work the case alongside Elsbeth.

It's sure to be an exciting episode, which will help to kick off what will be an amazing stretch of final episodes! CBS is pulling out the big guns for the season's closing episodes with an amazing guest lineup locked in for the final episodes of the season!
