FBI season 8 is already confirmed by CBS

FBI was one of the shows missing from the bulk renewals, but there's a good reason for that.
“Abandoned” – The assassination of a seemingly ordinary Brooklyn plumber launches the team into a globe-spanning investigation that ruffles feathers with the CIA. Meanwhile, Tiffany struggles with fieldwork in the aftermath of the Hakim case, on the seventh season premiere of FBI, Tuesday, Oct. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day

When CBS bulk renewed nine shows for the 2025–2026 season, there were immediate concerns about the shows that weren’t renewed. FBI season 8 wasn’t on the list, but there is some great news about the show already.

FBI was the only show we went into the season without being concerned about already. That’s all thanks to a multi-season renewal from last year.

FBI got a three-season renewal in spring 2024

FBI Night is certainly a huge success for CBS, so it wasn’t surprising to find out that all three FBI shows had been renewed for the 2024–2025 season. However, one renewal came with better news. FBI wasn’t renewed for just one more season, but three more seasons.

One of those seasons is this one that’s happening now. It means that FBI season 8 is already guaranteed. We also know that we’ll definitely get FBI season 9.

There are limitations to the renewal of FBI though

There is some bad news for fans of the characters. With the renewal, we learned that not all characters would appear in every episode. One of the reasons for the multi-season renewal was that Universal Studios, which licenses the series to CBS, was willing to negotiate a way to save money. The actors were also willing to negotiate.

The actors have effectively taken a pay cut by agreeing not to appear in every single episode. This does lead to fans questioning where characters are now and then, and the characters will need to give a reason for their partners not being at work. However, it works, and it’s worked with other shows like FBI: Most Wanted, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD.

This limitation is expected to continue into FBI season 8. It will likely be more visible when there is a permanent replacement for Scola’s partner on the team. One of the benefits of not having a permanent replacement has meant that there isn’t another series regular to fit in. That will change soon.

FBI airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
