The latest episode of FBI was a heart pounder, but it also made a brief mention of where Scola’s new partner, Syd, went off to after it was announced she would departing the show. What happened to Syd and how was she written off the CBS series?
In the episode itself, the team had to work quickly in order to stop terrorists from bring down planes reminiscent of 9/11. It had a big effect on Scola, who lost his brother on 9/11. Normally, he would have a partner to turn to in these moments at work, but he was on his own.
His newest partner, Syd Ortiz only made a few appearances before actress Lisette Olivera exited the show despite being touted as a series regular. The reason given for her departure was the people behind the scenes felt the character needed to be a little older with more experience in the field.
How FBI season 7 wrote out Syd Ortiz
However, this didn’t mean that Syd was let go from the FBI. At the beginning of the episode, Scola told Nina that Syd got a lucrative offer from the folks upstairs about taking on a role for a special task force. So it sounds like Syd will be making waves elsewhere but still will be a part of the FBI, or at least another government agency.
What does this mean for Scola, though? The series has already cast a new actress to be his new partner. Actress Emily Alabi has been cast in a recurring role that could see her become a series regular in season 8.
Alabi currently has a guest starring role on the CBS show SWAT, where she plays the girlfriend of Victor Tan. While we do not know what this will mean for her appearances on that show as well, we are looking forward to seeing Scola working with another partner during the remainder of season 7.
On her Instagram page, Alabi described having tested for a role on FBI earlier in the season, but things didn’t work out. However, it now looks like she will be getting an even bigger role than anticipated. It’ll be great to see what kind of agent she will play and how the character works with Scola, Maggie, OA, and the rest of the team.
We will keep you updated as we learn more about the new agent coming to be Scola’s partner for season 7 and, potentially, season 8. Keep an eye on Precinct TV for more coverage.
