The FBI season 8 premiere gives a terrifying tease about Isobel

Throughout the summer, we’ve had one question about FBI season 8. What would happen to Isobel Castille?

CBS has revealed the synopsis for the FBI season 8 premiere, and things aren’t looking good. Jubal has a promotion, and this could only hint at one thing.

A New Day
“A New Day” - After Jubal narrowly escapes a calculated assault on a secret FBI office, the team discovers an anti-government group has infiltrated the FBI. Unsure of who to trust, the team must work in the shadows to unmask the culprits threatening the sanctity of the New York field office, on the seventh season finale of FBI, Tuesday, May 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on

Isobel Castille will potentially be killed off in the FBI season 8 premiere

As the synopsis starts with a look at the case for the premiere episode, the end of it focuses on Jubal. He is feeling the weight of his new promotion. We know that the only way up is for Isobel to move out of her current position, and while we did question whether she would choose to retire during FBI season 7, the end of the season didn’t hint at that.

However, Isobel collapsed, and we know that there was no pulse. She needed immediate medical attention, and if Jubal is stepping up into her role, it does hint that she isn’t going to make it.

Now, this is a show that for eight seasons hasn’t killed off one of the main members of the team. It’s come close, but it hasn’t actually gone through with it. Could it choose to do something similar to 911 and kill off one of its (almost) OG characters—she wasn’t in the pilot episode?

All the Rage
“All the Rage” – When a bus explosion kills several innocent people, the team jumps into action to take down the responsible terrorist organization. Meanwhile, Scola tries to balance fatherhood with the job, on the sixth season premiere of FBI, Tuesday, Feb 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). There is another way to have Isobel alive but out

Of course, just because Jubal has the promotion doesn’t mean that Isobel will be killed off. There are multiple reasons why Jubal could be stepping into her position in the FBI season 8 premiere.

This could be a temporary promotion, but the synopsis doesn’t want to give that away. This would make sense if Isobel has had to take some time off to recover. Someone would need to step into her position to keep everything in the New York Field Office running, and who better than her No. 2?

The other alternative is that she chooses to retire. This could have been a near-death experience that was too much for her, especially coming off the back of such a terrifying terrorist attack. With a life with her new husband in front of her, she may decide that it’s time to step away, choosing to want to make sure she has a life with her husband. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it does realistically set up a storyline for Jubal to get a permanent promotion.

However, I’m worried that the show will decide it needed to shake things up. After all, with no major character deaths, it does lead to the belief that everyone is safe. If these characters are constantly put in dangerous situations, we’re left not feeling like the stakes are high, because everyone always gets out. A major death does leave us wondering what’s coming next, and after seven seasons, it’s probably time for that.
