Could there be wedding bells coming for FBI? One star has weighed in on the chances!
FBI is taking a break for the winter in season 8. The show last aired in mid-December and won’t return until Monday, Feb. 23. That means a long wait for fans of the hit series, which usually focuses on the crimes of the week, although there are some personal storylines as well.
Among them is the relationship between agents Stuart Scola (John Boyd) and Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten). Nina first appeared in FBI season 4 when she and Scola bumped into each other on a case. It was revealed that the pair had a brief fling a year earlier, and at the end of the episode, agreed to go on another date.
The pair grew closer in season 5 as Nina briefly replaced an injured Maggie on the team. Nina revealed she was pregnant and transferred to another division while she and Scola figured things out. Nina and Scola kept up their relationship with the season 5 finale showing Nina giving birth. VanSanten then moved to FBI: Most Wanted, with her and Scola shown raising their son and each actor making a brief appearance on the other's show.
With FBI: Most Wanted now canceled, fans are hoping to see Nina return to the main FBI series. If that happens, could this lead to a wedding?

Will we see Scola and Nina married on FBI?
TV Insider spoke to Boyd at a special event for Law & Order’s 25th season, which had numerous Dick Wolf series stars attending. When asked about any possible wedding for Nina and Scola, Boyd laughed it off before teasing about the serious stuff coming.
“Maybe some wedding bells? Big life changes, a lot of mixed emotions, higher stakes.”
He added that he would be interested in exploring “how a wedding, a marriage would change his life, change the relationship and his relationship to the world.”
It would be interesting, yet Nina and Scola seem content to just be living together rather than tie the knot. Indeed, at the end of Most Wanted, Nina got into a row with her father, pressuring her to be married now that she was a mother, with her resisting as she wanted to be more independent.
Scola understands that and likewise doesn’t want to push Nina into a marriage she’s uncomfortable with. The pair also knows the dangers being FBI agents brings (Nina was shot on a case) and worries that adding marriage to it can cause tension and lethal distraction. These are two people who are focused on their jobs and have no doubt seen too many agents whose marriages go down in flames because of their duty. It can be that they think actual marriage could ruin their relationship.
It’s still up in the air, but fans of FBI are hopeful that, if not a wedding, Nina at least makes a return to the series to continue this fun couple’s journey together.
FBI season 8 returns on Monday, Feb. 23 at 9/8c on CBS.
