FBI showrunner Mike Weiss discussed plans for crossovers with CIA, including in the premiere episode. Find out what we know so far.

Jeremy Sisto’s Jubal Valentine is not the only FBI character who will appear on the new spinoff CIA. CBS will not only have two FBI agents show up in the new series but will also feature a mini crossover event with a character from CIA appearing on the original series.

It was already announced Valentine would appear on CIA when the show premieres on Monday, Feb. 23, following the FBI’s return to the screen. Alana de La Garza and Missy Peregrym will also appear as their characters, SAC Isobel Castille and Special Agent Maggie Bell. Now we also know that, in addition to them appearing on the new spinoff series, one of the characters from the new show will also need to turn to their FBI counterpart.

Among the new cast members we will meet on CIA is Necar Zadegan, who plays Nikki Reynard, the Deputy Chief of Station. Her appearance was described in a Deadline interview with showrunner and executive producer Mike Weiss.

Other than knowing which characters will appear in the premiere, plans for future spinoffs are still up in the air. However, Weiss did not rule out the possibility, since the offices may need to work together, much like when they made appearances on FBI: International and Most Wanted before those shows were cancelled.

CIA will follow Nick Gehlfuss as FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman, who is sent to be part of a task force with the CIA. He teams up with CIA Agent Colin Glass, played by Tom Ellis, who is described as both “secretive and roguish.”

Since the CIA does not normally conduct operations on US soil, she needs to seek help from Jubal Valentine. This likely means that she will make an appearance at the end of the FBI premiere to help lead into the new spinoff.

In the premiere episode, “Directed Energy,” Goodman and Glass must work together when someone steals a top-secret weapon from a U.S. defense contractor. At first, things are rocky between the two, but they realize their partnership could be valuable because of their different perspectives.

When FBI returns, we will see Shantel VanSanten return as Agent Nina Chase when she needs help during an undercover operation. This will lead to the anticipated wedding between her and Agent Stuart Scola (John Boyd), so fans are looking forward to watching that! Since CIA airs right afterward, we suspect this is when we will be introduced to Zadegan’s character.

FBI airs with new episodes beginning on Monday, Feb 23 at 9/8c. CIA will air its premiere episode on the same night at 10/9c. Fans can stream the new episode the next day on Paramount+.
