If you’re already excited about Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, then you’ll be even more excited. Not only does the series have a CW premiere date, but it also has a second season.

Yes, Canadian viewers have already had the chance to watch both seasons of the Law & Order series, as they’ve both aired on CityTV. Great, but what about The CW? Just because there are more seasons doesn’t mean that The CW will acquire them. Well, this is where the news gets even better.

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 2 has already been acquired

When The CW acquired the first season of the Canadian Law & Order series, it did so with the second season at the same time. Yes, both seasons were picked up, and that’s when the second season was still airing on CityTV.

It just shows how much The CW thinks this series will do well. We just have to look at who Wild Cards has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4 by CBC, and The CW hasn’t made a decision to acquire them yet or not. This could suggest that it no longer has faith in that crime drama.

The second season of the Canadian Law & Order will air in 2026

As of right now, Nextstar shares that Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 2 is slated to air in 2026. It doesn’t give a better timeframe than that, but we know that we won’t need to wait forever for the show.

This decision isn’t all that surprising since the episodes are already available. What’s going to be interesting is seeing whether The CW keeps it as a fall series or pushes it to the midseason or summer. The CW has been in flux for some time now, getting rid of traditional programming schedules for the most part.

If Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent performs well in the fall, then we will probably have to wait until fall 2026 for the second season. If it doesn’t quite hit the mark, then the episodes could run in the spring or summer of 2026 to get them out of the way and find other programming.

What is Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent about?

It does seem odd for The CW to get a show that seems more fitting for NBC, but The CW has been acquiring a lot of Canadian dramas lately. This one specifically is based on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, with the first season following Detective Sergeants Henry Graff (Aden Young) and Frankie Bateman (Kathleen Munroe), members of the Specialized Criminal Investigations Unit.

They tackle the most high-profile murders in Toronto, Canada, and we’ll get to delve into the world of high finances, media, real estate, and more. It’s a chance to delve into the Canadian legal and justice system to see how much it works (or doesn’t).

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c on The CW.
