We’re used to dedication cards at the end of episodes of TV shows. NCIS, The Rookie, and even Accused have all done them in the past, and now it’s time for High Potential.
At the end of High Potential season 2 episode 7, there was a dedication card for a man named Nicolas Jean. This is a great way to honor a person important to the show, especially when it gets a lot of people learning more about the person who passed. And Jean is an important part of the ABC series.

Who was Nicolas Jean to High Potential?
Without Jean, we wouldn’t have High Potential. Jean was a co-creator of the original French series, HPI, and it was just earlier in October that the French writers guild, SACD, share that Jean had died on Monday, Sept. 29. He was just 63 at the time, and no cause of death has been released. We respect the privacy of the family at this time, but the world has lost a brilliant creative.
Jean co-created HPI: Haut Potential Intellectuel with Stéphane Carrié and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot. That series premiered in 2021 to high praise and excitement. There are only three seasons to the series, as it ended in 2023, but It quickly became a hit show for American creators to adapt from.
You can watch the French version of the show. It’s available to stream on Hulu along with High Potential, and if you want to get an idea as to how some storylines could develop, then it’s going to be the thing for you.

The reason HPI was created
Jean was the main reason the show was created in the first place. He was inspired by his own son, who has HPI, and Jean wanted to create a world to explore what could be possible for someone like him. This led to the creation of the character Morgane in the French show, a single mom of three who ends up helping the police solve crimes through the use of her own HPI.
Without Morgane, we wouldn’t have the Morgan Gillory we’ve come to know and love in High Potential. Sure, Jean isn’t directly connected to the show, but he deserves the dedication that came at the end of the episode.
High Potential is now on its winter break and will return with new episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 9/8c on ABC.
