When a skydiver is killed mid-jump, Major Crimes is called in on the case. However, Morgan finds herself sidelined on High Potential season 2 episode 10.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 2 episode 10.
It’s not surprising that Morgan is intrigued by the case of the week. A skydiver dies in the middle of the air, and it’s not just some freak incident. No, he didn’t pass out and die once he hit the ground, and when a threatening note is found in his pocket, it’s clear that someone likely killed him.
However, Morgan ends up finding herself pulled off the case after she puts a rush on the coroner’s report. It’s time for Morgan to learn when she can and can’t bend the rules.
A skydiver dies on the way down on High Potential season 2 episode 10?
The episode focuses on the murder of a skydiver. The rush on the coroner’s report gives the team a cause of death. It’s hypoxia, so he suffocated on the way down. However, his gear was all fine when it was checked, so what actually happened?
Because the skydiver was ex-Air Force, Wagner fears that JAG will get involved. To prevent that, he reached out to his own contacts and then put himself in the middle of the case. In a way, this gives us a chance to learn a little more about Wagner, but it’s clear that nobody wants him there. He is overstepping, as captains don’t usually put themselves in the middle of the field. We just know that Wagner doesn’t really like not being in the field.

Morgan is sent to detective school on High Potential
After putting the rush on the order, Morgan is chastised and sent to detective school. As much as she hates the class, it does end up helping her figure out that one of the skydivers, Ethan, was lying. That’s exactly who was in the murdered skydiver’s house hiding while the cops searched it.
It turns out that Padilla was the therapist for Ethan’s brother, who suffered from PTSD and took his own life. Of course, Ethan blames the therapist for not helping him, but does that mean he killed Padilla?
It turns out that Padilla had realized that something was going on with a few of his patients, so he decided to start grounding flights, which pushed projects with the Air Force back. This would certainly lead to enemies.
Meanwhile, during the detective course, Morgan shows just how good her detective skills are, even if she doesn’t do it the right way. That doesn’t stop her from having to take the course, though. At the same time, she still helps with the mystery of Padilla, and even Wagner gets involved in making sure Morgan can help when she’s genuinely needed.

What happened to the skydiver and the pilot?
While the cards show what seem to be PTSD, Wagner notes that not everything fits PTSD. This is what Padilla was trying to get to the bottom of, and it all goes back to Flagstone and a new plane. Sure enough, there is a problem with the life support system, meaning that there wasn’t enough oxygen getting to the pilots.
When Ethan went to the product manager, he decided that they could look into the life support system after the launch, as it would cost billions to fix. Morgan continues to help get to the bottom of the case by getting the password for Padilla’s password, which leads Karadec and Wagner back to the office, as the documents were still being printed there.
While it’s good news for the case, Morgan keeps getting caught helping with the case. While the teacher of the course recommends that Morgan be retained, Solomon doesn’t want to take that recommendation. He views her insubordination as a liability, which is fair, as it really was becoming a problem at times. He decides that she has to be fired.

Is Morgan really fired on High Potential?
With the bad news out, Soto makes her thoughts known to Wagner, but it’s more than just about getting Morgan involved in the case. She’s still angry that she didn’t get the captain’s job, and she’s angry that he keeps making moves that affect her team. There is a level of respect that comes with the speech, with Wagner seeming to accept everything she’s saying.
So, now, it’s all about the case, and they have to do it without Morgan. Even when she walks in, the team can’t use her. This isn’t something that will just blow over, but since the paperwork was processed after 6 p.m., it won’t get processed until the next day. That means she still has a job until the next day, so they can pull an all-nighter, but they don’t need to do that. Morgan quickly figures it out, all thanks to a mention of cheap cleaning products.
It was the oxygen mask, after all. The material of the valve had been a cheap knockoff that was known to freeze in cold temperatures, which affected Padilla, since he did jumps from high altitudes. As much as the project manager/lead engineer wanted to prove that he had never met Padilla, the evidence was stacked up against him. He switched out the valve and killed Padilla. With that the case is closed.

Soto finds out what happened to Arthur
In some good news, we get an update about Arthur. The guy tailing him didn’t take him. As Arthur realized what was going on, he decided to go off the grid, and now he’s done working with the cops.
After being fired, Morgan shares that Soto can stop working on the Roman case, but Soto isn’t going to stop this. This is what she signed up for.
On top of that, Soto has photos that could help her get Morgan back, and she shows them to Wagner. We don’t get to see what those photos are, but it’s something to do with Solomon, and with that Wagner offers his full support.
When Soto tries to get Solomon to change his mind and fails, she shows him the photos. They’re of him having an affair with the chief’s wife, and so, it looks like Morgan’s job will be saved after all. Soto heads to Morgan to give her the good news, and Morgan knows that Soto did something to help, but has no idea what, and Soto isn’t saying. The problem now is that this makes a bigger enemy of Solomon.
At the same time, Karadec has realized that Wagner didn’t actually want the captain’s job. It means someone forced him into that position, and Karadec wants to know who he’s scared of.
High Potential airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
