After dealing with the Game Master, it looks like the LAPD is back on the same page. This means dealing with a new case of the week in High Potential season 2, episode 3.
I’m still not convinced that we’re fully over the Game Master story. Something tells me that Matthew Clarke is going to be needed when it comes to a future case, or that he ends up learning of something and can use it to manipulate Morgan further while locked behind bars.
For now, though, he’s out of the LAPD’s hair. It means a new case to deal with, and that involves a man who is killed under mysterious circumstances. Well, it’s murder, and Karadec and co. are part of the Major Crimes team.

A man with a love for sports in High Potential season 2, episode 3?
Let’s start with the motive for the murder that comes up in the promo. As they look around the victim’s apartment, Karadec notes that there are a lot of books about sports. It looks like the man was a huge baseball fan, except there are no caps or memorabilia anywhere. That suggests that he was a gambler instead.
Now the motive could become clear. It’s likely that the man owed a huge gambling debt to the wrong people, and Karadec knows how sideways that sort of thing can go.
When someone suspicious comes to the apartment and attacks Karadec, of course, a chase happens. This is likely a red herring, but it could help to bring a few answers.

There is something else that stands out in the promo. When dealing with the body at the start, there’s a mention of the man being known for suspicious injuries. What does this have to do with the case? I’m intrigued.
Ava learns more about her father
Meanwhile, the synopsis tells us that Morgan is going to open up to Ava about her father. During High Potential season 2, episode 2, Morgan got a visit from the man Oz and Daphne believed was Roman. He’s actually called Arthur Ellis, and he knows Roman—and by extension, Morgan and Ava.
Arthur wants to understand why Morgan is working with law enforcement, which Roman doesn’t trust. Meanwhile, Morgan wants to know why Arthur had the backpack that belonged to Roman. There’s a lot to uncover here, but it is time for Morgan to be honest with her daughter about the whole situation.

Ava has long believed that her dad abandoned her, but there was hope that that didn’t happen after all. However, with Roman alive and still staying away, what does it say about him and his love for Morgan and Ava?
Take a look at the synopsis:
"When a man with a troubled past is killed under mysterious circumstances, Morgan and the LAPD uncover a tragic motive behind his death. Meanwhile, Morgan opens up to Ava about her father, forcing Ava to confront truths she isn’t ready to face."
