Morgan sneaks into Rhys’s hotel room on High Potential season 2 episode 8

We open with a woman in an underground parking lot, making it look like she will become the next victim. However, her boyfriend is just playing a prank on her to scare her. They’re safe, but the same can’t be said for the curator. We learn who found the body.

So, now it’s up to Major Crimes to get to the bottom of the murder. Morgan quickly notes that the watch he wore was a fake, but she doesn’t stick around at the parking lot. With Rhys also there, she has the chance to sneak into Rhys’s hotel room.

Of course, with her walking away from the crime scene so quickly, Karadec knows that Morgan is up to something, so he follows her. He’s not happy with how she’s learned Rhys could be Jean Baptiste, nor is he happy with the idea of her breaking into the hotel room to see the painting that’s in the crate in there, but he lets her go.

When in the room, she finds a piece of art, but not the one that they’re looking for. So, it looks like maybe Rhys isn’t Jean Baptiste.

Cyrus’s boyfriend may have stolen the piece of art

When Morgan and Karadec head to curator Cyrus’s apartment, they find out that someone else is already in there. It turns out that Cyrus was seeing someone, but Morgan soon notices that something is off. This man does seem genuine in his grief, but spotting a couple of candlesticks leads to Morgan questioning about cleaning. Sure enough, the cleaning supplies can be mixed to create an explosion.

As the boyfriend feels the heat from the questions, he decides to run and jump into a stolen car. That makes him look guilty enough for Karadec to arrest him, but is he Jean Baptiste? Since he won’t answer questions, it takes Morgan some time to think about his job and his actions. And so, she heads off to his office, where the Rembrandt is stored on a cork board behind other papers.

With the Rembrandt now in the office, it’s time to get it back to the Fosters. However, Morgan calls Mrs. Wiseman, so she gets to see the painting once more. At the same time, Rhys starts to leave, but everything comes to a halt when Wiseman shares that the portrait isn’t right. The young girl doesn’t have “my eyes,” and sure enough, the painting is inconsistent with the past.

Morgan initially thinks that Rhys was the one to take the real one, but it’s not in his briefcase. Insurance documents about the Fosters is in there instead, and Morgan notices more inconsistencies.

Sure enough, the Fosters had a lot of fake artwork done. After initially insuring everything, eventually, they only insured the Rembrandt, which just happens to go missing. They were in debt with bad people, selling off their artwork to get out of that. They didn’t want to lose the Rembrandt, so they had a fake one created to give to the museum, and they arranged for it to be stolen.

Cyrus “stole” it and then gave it to his boyfriend. It was only after that that he learned it was fake when he realized his watch from them was fake. The Fosters killed him to protect their secret.

Where is the real Rembrandt on High Potential?

As Morgan gets it confirmed that the Rembrandt is a fake, Karadec and Wagner head to the Fosters’ yacht. However, as they get on it and initially get out of trouble, they learn that the real Rembrandt is gone.

Who happens to have it? Well, of course, it’s Rhys. He is Jean Baptiste. Morgan catches him before Karadec and Wagner gets back to shore. Rhys shares that he stole the painting to give it back to the right person: Mrs. Wiseman. Of course, Morgan can’t know if he’s going to do it, but she chooses to trust him. The good news is we learn that he does the right thing in the end, making him a good thief.

The rest of the world is told that the Fosters threw it into the water. Wagner can tell that that didn't happen, but he allows for the search for it to end and Morgan is back with her team, as he notes that she's needed.

What happened to Arthur on High Potential?

Throughout the episode, Arthur called Morgan to tell her about the man who wanted the backpack. He’s beaten up, and Morgan wants him to talk to the cops about it.

In the end, Arthur agrees, and Soto turns up at the boxing gym. When she gets a description of the man, she shows Arthur a photo from the pictures in the backpack. Sure enough, one of the guys matches the description of the man from the back of Arthur’s car. He still doesn’t want to go down to the station, though.

It’s only when he ends up with a tail that he decides to head to Soto. He doesn’t make it, though. While Soto keeps trying to call him, we find his phone on the ground and his truck empty. Now not only do we have questions about where Roman is, but we also have to wonder here Arthur is.

What we do know is that the man from the picture has found Morgan, and he’s at the bar watching her. Everyone is now in danger.

High Potential airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
