You would think when a hitman is killed, you wouldn’t really care to look into it, but Morgan and Karadec do. And so, the hunt for the man who cut the brakes of a hitman starts on High Potential season 2 episode 9.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 2 episode 9.
Ludo walks into the house with flowers, but they’re not for him. It doesn’t take long to find out who the flowers are from. Yes, they’re from Rhys, which hints that he could return in the future, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m hear for more Aidan Turner!
However, it does clearly give Elliot an idea. He wants to get his parents back together, and maybe a little romance is all that’s needed.

Finding out it’s a hitman on High Potential season 2 episode 9
In the LAPD’s defence, they have no idea that it’s a hitman, so they head to the murder scene. As they realize what’s going on, they start to look at who the hitman could have been after. This leads to finding the golf balls, which were being hit by whoever the hitman was taking photos of. Is it possible the target is the killer? Doesn’t that seem a little too obvious?
Soto is the one who figures out the intended victim. After photos from the dead hitman come back, she realizes the golfer was the owner of a vacuum company that is facing legal issues due to safety problems. It doesn’t really matter who killed the hitman at this point. Soto knows that Newmeyer needs to be located to keep him safe since there will still be someone out there ready to kill him.
After locating and following the bodyguards, the LAPD ends up at Newmeyer’s house. Only when they get there, he’s dead. Well, is he? When he sits up, the FBI rush out, and the plot starts to thicken. The hitman wasn’t a hitman after all — he was an undercover fed.

A fake hitman to catch the clients
Now that they know the hitman was a fed, it’s time for the LAPD and the FBI to join together. Curtis Bellinger, the fake hitman, was working on figuring out who the client was. It turns out that Wagner has a previous undercover relationship with the woman on the FBI task force, which certainly surprises Morgan.
Morgan has an ulterior reason to keep working on the case. She wants to help people find Newmeyer guilty of his vacuum issues to help the victims. Meanwhile, Wagner uses the case as a chance to talk to Karadec about his former partner and the missing money, which is sure to be a bigger issue as the season continues. Maybe it is about time this was resolved.
As for the case, there’s a big reveal. It turns out that Newmeyer is having an affair, and now there’s another reason for people to hire a hitman. Sure enough, the husband hired the hitman, but he’s not the one who killed Bellinger. The FBI isn’t convinced, so it’s up to Major Crimes to figure out who actually killed the fake hitman.

Catching the real killer on High Potential
When the money Bellinger was paid is found in the car with red carpet fibers, it’s soon clear that the money was planted there to get the LAPD to focus on the murder-for-hire. The real killer is one of the FBI agents.
Of course, Morgan catches the final clues to put it all together. So, who was it? It all goes back to Newmeyer, who had the lead FBI agent in his pocket. It all linked back to Sweden, where he was station tracking international hackers, and it’s how he met Newmeyer. The case is officially closed.

Elliot tries to get his parents back together
One of the cutest moments of High Potential season 2 episode 9 is Elliot trying to get his parents back together. It’s something that so many children want when their parents have split up, especially when they get along as well as Morgan and Ludo, but it’s not always possible.
Ludo calls Morgan to tell her everything that is going on, and once he knows that she told the children everything when they split, Ludo figures out how to manage it. It’s time for an honest conversation in an age-appropriate way, and Ludo does an excellent job of it, so it looks like High Potential isn’t going the route of the French series where Morgane and Ludo do end up hooking up, and I appreciate that.

What’s going on with Arthur?
Soto was able to find out what happened to Arthur on the night that he didn’t turn up. It’s only been 24 hours since finding his truck — not even that — but then a report will be filed to find him. Soto isn’t going to rest, knowing that something is up with the entire situation.
We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out what happened to Arthur, though. It looks like this will take over the rest of High Potential season 2, and I’m not sure how to feel about that.
High Potential season 2 airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC and streams the following day on Hulu.
