The High Potential season 2 cast is growing, and most recently it's with a mystery recurring role. ER vet Mekhi Phifer is joining the comedic drama series, according to Variety.
The details of the role are being heavily guarded. However, we think we may have worked it out, and if so, it’s going to be exciting for the season to come!
Is Mekhi Phifer playing Morgan’s missing ex in High Potential season 2?
Throughout High Potential season 1, Morgan asked for one thing from Captain Soto. She needed Soto to look for any clues as to the whereabouts of her ex, Roman. Deep down, she knows that Roman wasn’t just some deadbeat dad who abandoned his family, and Soto was able to get proof that the man really did go out to buy diapers on the night that he went missing.
So, the rest of the season was focused on figuring out what happened to him. There has always been hope that he would turn up alive. That’s especially important now with the way the storyline has played out. There’s a chance that he was in trouble with a gang, and either he’s been in hiding or he’s been forced to work with the gang.
What we do know is that Roman was one of the good ones. So, if he went missing, it was to protect his family.
This opens the door for Roman to walk through it in High Potential season 2. Phifer would fit the image created for Roman throughout the first season.
Why would High Potential keep Roman’s casting quiet?
But if Phifer is playing Roman, why would the series keep this casting such a mystery and reveal Phifer’s name? It’s possible that this is to garner this sort of attention, similar to the way Found did when casting Danielle Savre as Sir’s sister. We didn’t get proof that she was Lena until during the season, leading to more mystery.
We could see something similar play out with Phifer’s character interact with someone like Soto or even Ludo before appearing to Morgan. This would allow him to take on another alias before finally revealing himself. After all, Morgan is going to be able to tell when she’s found her ex. He could even come to see Ava secretly, before finally revealing who he is.
High Potential has also just recently added Steve Howey as a new captain in the series. There’s sure to be plenty more casting to come as the series gets into filming.
High Potential will air on Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC in fall 2025.
