High Potential may have seemed like an unlikely recipe for success, but the show was a big hit with audiences. Single mom Morgan Gillory, portrayed superbly by Kaitlin Olson, plays a night-time cleaning lady for the L.A.P.D. One night, Morgan accidentally knocked over some files and then absent-mindedly changed a conclusion on the murder board. And once Morgan's crazy-high IQ and amazing memory and recall were accidentally outed, Captain Soto, played by Judy Reyes, offered her a job as a consultant.
And Morgan solved case after case for the squad with her gift for obscure facts. Of course, there were some bumps in the road. Morgan was paired up with a strict, by-the-book detective, Detective Adam Karadec, played by actor Daniel Sunjata. Eventually, the duo developed a rapport and a friendship.
While there seemed to be some chemistry between Morgan and Karadec, she also had another potential love interest in the picture. Morgan went to the police gala with former janitor, and now nurse, Tom. Unfortunately, he took a job in San Francisco, but Morgan and Tom seem open to seeing where their relationship could lead.
High Potential adds another captain for season 2
Deadline reported that not only has Kaitlin Olson been promoted from producer to executive producer, but Steve Howey is joining the High Potential team. He has been added to the ABC procedural as a series regular for the second season.
Howey will portray Captain Jesse Wagner. Reportedly, Jesse is politically savvy and able to charm anyone and everyone. It sounds like he could have strong political ambitions. Plus, he enjoys thinking outside the lines, just like Morgan. Perhaps this twosome will also strike up a friendship? Or could there be some friction between him and Morgan? Only time will tell.
And our newbie has no qualms about diving into the middle of all the chaos. Well, it sounds as if he will drive Captain Soto crazy with his antics. I can't help wondering how Jesse's addition will change the squad dynamic. I'm sure Captain Soto will feel that she doesn't need another captain nosing around.
Of course, Howey is in good company on the High Potential cast. He also has experience in comedy, like many of his new co-stars. He played Kevin Ball in Shameless on Showtime. Howey was also a cast member on the comedy Reba on the WB, and was the lead in True Lies.
