When we reach the end of a season for any show, we look ahead at if there is more to come. A high-quality series like High Potential needs more to the story, right?
The first season has come to an end. Don’t worry; if you haven’t caught the episode yet, we are not going into spoilers in this post. We don’t want to ruin the surprises for you.
What was clear from the ending was that there is more to the story. Morgan’s work with the LAPD is not finished yet, and there’s more to come in her search for what happened to Roman. So, will the writers get a chance to tell more?
Yes, High Potential season 2 is happening
As we previously reported, High Potential season 2 is officially happening. The series was renewed at the start of 2025, becoming one of the early renewals of the TV season. It’s the first scripted series from ABC to land a renewal.
That means there are more crimes for Morgan and Karadec to solve. We get to see more of how Morgan’s brain works, and we’ll get to see what actually happened to Roman. At least, we hope we’ll get all of that.
Why wasn’t High Potential season1 extended?
Of course, the fact that the series only had 13 episodes in season 1 may have been concerning to a lot of people. While a new series usually gets a 13-episode order, when it turns popular, there is usually an extension given. That wasn’t the case for this ABC series.
It wasn’t the only successful show not to land an extension. Matlock doesn’t seem to have gained extra episodes, and this could be a sign of the times. It costs a lot more to create good TV than it used to, and so the best way to save money is to order fewer episodes. The budget stretches further. This could be the case with High Potential.
There’s also the fact that more and more shows are turning to shorter seasons. We can blame streaming for a lot of this, but gone are the days where shows routinely bring us 22-episode seasons. The attention spans of people are changing, and that could be contributing to the changing patterns.
High Potential season 1 is now available to stream on Hulu.
