If Barnes doesn't take over the Fugitive Task Force, who could in FBI: Most Wanted?

It doesn't look like FBI: Most Wanted will end with Barnes taking over the Fugitive Task Force. Who could take over if Remy retires?

It’s looking more and more like Remy will retire at the end of FBI: Most Wanted season 6, and that would have initially led to suggestions that Barnes should take over. However, now it looks like Barnes won’t take over as she is potentially looking at a move to DC to be closer to her children.

Barnes’s storyline makes a lot of sense personally. It’s not easy to be separated from your children, especially when the divorce and the move wasn’t something she wanted in the first place. However, it potentially leaves the position of Fugitive Task Force leader open, so who could take it over?

Now, it could be someone completely new coming in. However, there is one person who could take over the leading of the team, but it would mean she can’t rejoin the flagship series or join FBI: CIA.

Nina Chase could lead the Fugitive Task Force in FBI: Most Wanted

What about Nina? While she initially rubbed people the wrong way when she came into the team, she has now made friends and found a working relationship with everyone. To be honest, she came in hot against Remy Scott rather than anyone else, and it’s not like Remy’s ways of running the team gelled well with some of the other team members, such as Barnes. In a way, it wasn’t surprising to see Barnes and Nina get along immediately.

The two also had a strong relationship being mothers. Nina could turn to Barnes for advice when it came to children, knowing that Barnes had already been through it. And she did use that support now and then, showing that she is more than willing to take advice and trust people on her team.

Over the course of the season, she’s shown her skills as a team player, and we have seen her take the initiative in the past. The only thing that could stop her from taking over the team is her position in the FBI. In FBI: International, Cameron Vo made a note that she isn’t a GS-14, so she couldn’t be the Fly Team leader. Is that a problem for Nina in FBI: Most Wanted? It’s not been explained just yet, so it’s hard to say if it rules her out or not.

Of course, FBI: Most Wanted could still potentially end with Barnes taking over the Fugitive Task Force, but it doesn’t look like that is the case right now. If she can’t, Nina would make a great second choice.

FBI: Most Wanted airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
