Should Barnes apply for the DC position in FBI: Most Wanted?

FBI: Most Wanted seems to have the perfect closing storyline for Sheryll Barnes.

FBI: Most Wanted is coming to an end. This isn’t just the end of a season, but the end of the series, with CBS opting to cancel the series back in March 2025. It means we’re looking at how the storylines for each of the characters could end.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 17

While the series was canceled partway through production, there was still time to work on the final episodes. That meant that the writers could make sure the closing storylines worked, and it could mean that some of the team members go off in their new directions.

Barnes has spotted a job opportunity in DC in FBI: Most Wanted

As the team hunted down a man who may or may not have killed his wife, Sheryll Barnes found a job opportunity come through for FBI personnel. There’s a Supervisory Agent position available in DC, and she turns to Isobel at the end of the episode to ask for a recommendation if it comes to applying for it.

Barnes doesn’t want Remy and the others to know about this just yet. She doesn’t really know what she wants to do. Part of her loves her work with the Fugitive Task Force, and she has been with this from the ground up. However, she misses her children, and the DC position would bring her closer to them.

Barnes deserves the promotion in DC to end FBI: Most Wanted

I’d say that Barnes should go for the position. While Isobel points out that it’s a desk job, that doesn’t mean she’d never be able to go out into the field. We’ve seen Isobel out in the field when the time has called for it. However, the idea of it being a desk job is the only thing that makes me think that Barnes wouldn’t take it, and if there was another season of the series, I could see her deciding against it.

However, it is a promotion, and Barnes deserves a promotion. She has commanded the trust and respect of her team, and she’s proven herself as a leader whenever Remy has been away. There’s no doubt that she would excel as a leader elsewhere.

DC just makes sense for Barnes, as that’s where her children are. She made it clear in the new episode that she misses her kids, so why would she continue to work in a city away from them?

As much as I would love to see FBI: Most Wanted end with Barnes taking over as the leader of the Fugitive Task Force, her moving to be closer to her children makes the most sense. So yes, she should apply for the job.

FBI: Most Wanted airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
