At first, it looked like we wouldn’t get any Russell Shaw in Tracker season 3 with how busy Jensen Ackles is. However, Tracker showrunner Elwood Reid is willing to work with the schedules of the people he knows, and this is one of them.

Russell will be back for the third season, and not just for one episode. He’ll be back for at least two, and there is hope for more if the schedules can fit and the writing aligns.

Ontological Shock
“Ontological Shock” – When Colter suddenly disappears during his search for a missing father, Reenie recruits his brother, Russell (Jensen Ackles), for help, on the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, Oct. 20 (8:30-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Jensen Ackles will be in the Tracker season 3 premiere

Photos and synopses are out for many of CBS’s fall shows, and Tracker is one of them. We’ll get to see Ackles back as Russell Shaw in the Tracker season 3 premiere, which makes sense as the end of season 2 saw Colter learn that his father was murdered and that Mary had something to do with it.

Naturally, Colter is going to turn to his once-estranged brother. Mary had been adamant that Colter didn’t talk to Russell, hinting that he was involved in Ashton’s death. Russell made it clear that wasn’t the case, but that someone else was out there the night Ashton died. What Russell couldn’t say was whether Ashton died by suicide or murder.

Well, now Colter has some answers, and he’ll want to turn to his brother for help. The Tracker season 3 premiere is a two-parter, and Reid has shared that Ackles will be in the two episodes, as it was possible to make schedules work.

This doesn’t rule out him being back in the future. Reid shared with TVLine that he’s just finished editing episode 2, and production will be ongoing throughout the fall and winter, so there is time to find another space in Ackles’s busy schedule to do more episodes if the writing needs it.

Noble Rot
“Noble Rot” – Reenie gets Colter to take a case involving a woman missing from a high-end wellness retreat in Napa designed for CEOs, on the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, Nov. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+*(live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Russell is also back to help Reenie in Tracker

Russell isn’t just going to be back for answers about the Shaw family mystery. Reenie is in need of help, and we know that Russell has a thing for her. Of course, he’s going to come over when she’s looking for a man with skills.

Reenie’s client needs some help, as his wife and child have gone missing. They will end up mixed up in some sort of underground operation that’s known as “The Process.” Is this a sign that Reenie’s client is up to something shady?

Take a look at the synopsis for the Tracker season 3 premiere:

"As Colter grapples with the shocking truth surrounding his father’s death, Russell joins forces with his brother to help track down the missing wife and daughter of one of Reenie’s clients. Their reunion finds them mixed up in a chain of events involving a sinister underground operation known as ‘The Process.’"

This season will see some major changes, mainly in the fact that there are only two OG cast members standing. Eric Graise and Abby McEnany are exiting the show, and we’re intrigued to see what the thoughts of Reenie and others are about that.

Tracker season 3 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 8/7c on CBS.
