Velma and Teddi had a great bond when Tracker first started, so it was surprising to find out that the two would separate between seasons 1 and 2. The worst part of the separation is that Tracker season 2 severely underused Velma’s character, almost forgetting like she existed.
It’s an issue with a lot of women as they get older. They become forgettable characters, and TV shows need to do better to keep them on the air and on our minds. What could Tracker season 3 do next, and how can they do better by Velma?
Velma needs a new connection in Tracker season 3
As a way to give Bobby someone else to talk to in Tracker season 2, the series brought in his cousin Randy. This was a lot of fun, and it offers us a fresh arc within the tech world. However, Velma was completely left out in the cold.
The third season needs to offer Velma a new connection. This doesn’t even have to be a romantic one. It just needs to be someone that will bring her to the screen a lot more. This is a chance to show us what life after separation can be like in a good way.
If the series doesn’t want to offer a new connection, then at least give her screentime with others. It would be great for Velma to interact more with Reenie, since the two seem to have a bond since Velma helped Reenie get her law firm set up.
Give us some backstory on Velma and Colter in Tracker
Another option to give her something more to do is to offer us more backstory. We could learn just how Colter and Velma ended up coming together, and how she and Teddi became his handlers in the first place. After all, Colter keeps saying he’s a lone wolf, but that’s clearly not the case. What did lead to him trusting Velma in the way that he does now? Could this lead to a Tracker prequel series?
The first season offered some personal storylines between Velma and Teddi. With nobody else for her to talk to, it’s led to this worry that she is lonely and is closing herself off from the world. Maybe that’s something Colter can actually worry about, so that he goes to check in on her from time to time. This then opens the door for a conversation about the past, and what can be done to support her moving forward.
Tracker season 3 will air on Sundays at 8/7c on CBS in fall 2025.
