Apple TV+ just made a huge decision on the new thriller The Savant and star Jessica Chastain isn’t happy about it!
It’s pretty rare for a TV show to suddenly be yanked from the schedule literally days before its release. It can happen occasionally with networks removing an episode after a tragedy such as several TV shows involving gun violence postponed when a real-world shooting occurs.
Yet it’s striking when a streaming service does it. A big premiere this week was going to be The Savant, an anticipated Apple TV+ thriller starring Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain. Based on a true story, Chastain plays a suburban housewife who moonlights by going on message boards for extremist groups in hopes of stopping planned attacks.
The series was to premiere Friday, Sept. 26 on Apple TV+. However, just days before it was to air, the streamer announced they were postponing the series until an unannounced date.
“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,” an Apple TV+ spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
This is no doubt due to the aftereffects of the fatal shooting of right-wing podcaster and radio host Charles Kirk on Sept. 10, 2025. The atmosphere over the shooting has intensified the feelings of unrest in the United States and Apple TV+ no doubt is concerned how a series focusing on the extremist elements will play with viewers.
This decision hasn’t gone over well with those who were looking forward to the series. And it just so happens star Jessica Chastain agrees on how it’s a bad move!
How does Jessica Chastain feel about the delay of The Savant?
The award-winning actress took to Instagram to give a lengthy post on how she respected Apple TV+ but could not agree with their decision to hold off on the show’s premiere.
Chastain’s words are strong as she notes attacks on both sides of the political aisle and how relevant the show truly is. While other shows have pulled an episode because of a real-world tragedy, an entire series postponed days before its release date is something else.
If anything, it seems the series could have shone a light on understanding what fuels this kind of aggression and how to combat it. It also likely gives the series an unexpected boost in media attention and adding to the ongoing debate on the political climate.
While hoping that the current climate calms down, it’s also sadly possible things can remain rough for quite a while to the point Apple TV+ may feel releasing the show at all is a risk. As of now, there’s no date set or window so viewers are going to have to join Chastain hoping the show makes an eventual return.
The Savant to air on Apple TV+ at a yet to be determined date.
