It didn’t take long for Kiana Cook to prove that she belongs with Intelligence in Chicago PD season 12, episode 5. Now it’s time for her to officially join the team, but we needed a bit of a backstory on her first.
Caution: There are some SPOILERS for Chicago PD season 12, episode 5 in this post.
The new episode saw Cook pulled into an investigation into three missing girls. Sadly, one of those girls turned up dead, so she ended up focused on the other two. While the case was passed onto Intelligence, Torres wanted Cook on the team to help with this one. He’d seen the good she did with Ruzek when investigating Martel’s death.
Why was Cook demoted in Chicago PD?
Torres wanted to know a little bit more about Cook as he saw her work. She didn’t want to talk about her connection to her partner, Montgomery, but Torres eventually got it out of her. Cook explained that Montgomery was a slower roller and worried about his pension. He would only arrive on the scene when there were guaranteed arrests, and Cook didn’t agree with that.
When she mentioned it, she ended up finding out that she was reassigned back to patrol. It was clear that her partner used his connections to get her demoted out of fear of people listening to her.
There was a sense of defeat in her story. She knew that there was nothing she could do against him, and so she just had to make the best of the situation. Well, Torres had other plans.
Torres offers Cook a place on Intelligence in Chicago PD
By the end of the episode, things were looking up for Cook. Torres suggested that Cook joins Intelligence.
Of course, Cook was set in having to deal with patrol. She didn’t think that Voight would even want her on the team. Except that Torres shared that Voight had already said yes. As fans, we knew that Voight had already said yes. There is no way that Torres would have extended the invitation if Voight hadn’t already given the go ahead.
All it would take now would be for Cook to say yes.
We’ll get to see Cook officially part of the team when Chicago PD returns on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
