CBS has just delivered the last new episode of Matlock season 2 in 2025. This isn’t the worst of the disappointing news. While we know the show will be back in 2026, there is a longer wait than we’re used to.
In some other disappointing news, Matlock is the only Thursday CBS show that is off next week. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, and Elsbeth will all air their fall finales on Thursday, Dec. 18. It would suggest that Matlock has fewer episodes than the other shows in its season, which happened with the first season as well. This could also be linked to David Del Rio being abruptly fired from the series.
Either way, we have no more new episodes of Matlock to come this year, and the show ended its fall finale on a huge cliffhanger for multiple characters. So, how long do we need to wait?
Matlock season 2 will return in February 2026
Now for the terrible news. We have to wait until February for the series to come back, and this isn’t just the beginning of the month because of the way the weeks fall. No, CBS has decided to hold off all winter premieres until after the Winter Olympics, meaning Matlock season 2 will return on Thursday, Feb. 26.
In some good news, it returns with the rest of the Thursday night lineup at the usual time of 9/8c. Thursdays are a big night for CBS, and we’re here for all the shows, even the ones that aren’t crime dramas!
What to expect when Matlock returns
So, what is in store for Matty and Olympia when Matlock returns in 2026? The Matlock season 2 fall finale left with the reveal that Julian had been keeping an eye on Matty and Olympia all episode. He now knows that the two are working together with the Wellbrexa study, and that opens up the risk of him being in the firing line.
It’s even worse with Senior suffering a stroke. If he dies, it would be much harder to pin the entire Wellbrexa scandal on him, and Matty has made it clear that she will make sure Julian goes down for his involvement. Olympia hopes that things go a different way, but she knows that Matty and Edwin need justice and closure for Ellie, and she handed the Wellbrexa study back to them.
With Olympia and Matty on the same page about this, can they hold up against whatever Julian does against them? After all, he’s not going to just allow them to take him down, even if he does deserve it!
