Law & Order season 24 came to an end last night, Thursday, May 15. We’re not getting into spoilers in this post, but we are here to remind you that we’re now entering a long summer without any new episodes.
In some great news, Law & Order season 25 is happening. We’re just entering the summer hiatus, which means we have at least three months of no new episodes. In some positive news, there are still some episodes of Law & Order: Organized Crime to air on Peacock to get us through some of this break.
Law & Order season 25 will premiere in fall 2025
We don’t have to wait too long, but it’s going to feel like it. It always does at the start of the summer, and then all our summer plans start and suddenly it’s fall and we’re ready for fall TV. Law & Order season 25 will premiere in fall 2025, with NBC recently announcing its fall schedule. That confirmed that Law & Order Thursdays will remain in place, with the flagship series kicking off the night.
Instead of Found in the last slot, NBC has moved The Hunting Party there. So, we’ll still get a night of crime dramas.
When could the premiere air? The dates haven’t been set yet, but NBC is no stranger to September premiere dates. In some cases, the broadcast networks have waited until early October, though, so we’re expecting the middle of October 2025 at the very latest. We’re hoping for early September!

Law & Order season 25 will see some changes
This is where there is some bad news for the series. Law & Order season 25 will see some changes to help keep it on the air. The costs are rising for the Dick Wolf shows, and all of them need to see some changes. The easiest way is to reduce the episode count a little. Instead of 22 episodes, we’re looking at likely getting between 18 and 20 episodes.
On top of that, we won’t likely see all characters in every episode, which happened with the last few seasons. It’s a way to cut down on the costs of the actors, giving them guaranteed minimums for the season.
Of course, some actors could be cut. Law & Order: SVU will already see two series regulars leave, so we could see the same thing happen with the flagship series. Hopefully, the characters get some better arcs crafted for their exits, though!
Law & Order is available to stream on Peacock.
