Law & Order season 25 won't have any more new episodes in 2025 (but we have a return date)

There is some disappointing news for Law & Order fans tonight, Thursday, Nov. 27. There isn’t a new episode of the series.

Of course, tonight, we’re used to it. Not only is it a Thursday in November, but it’s a very special Thursday. It’s Thanksgiving, and there is no way any network will put a new episode of a top show on. NBC has a special airing of Sunday Night Football for the Thanksgiving game, anyway, so it’s not even like there’s space in the schedule.

However, there is more bad news to come. While CBS is just taking a week off from new episodes of shows, NBC is now on its winter break for the majority of its shows.

Law & Order season 25 will return in 2026

There are no more new episodes of Law & Order season 25 in 2025. We’ve ended with Riley getting his new partner, and there is certainly some intrigue with the new guy. However, we’ll have to wait until the new year to find out more about him.

In some good news, we know when Law & Order season 25 will return. It’s back on Thursday, Jan. 8, which is about normal for the series. The show will return at 8/7c, kicking off a night of crime dramas once more. It’s not a night of Law & Order anymore, though. While SVU will also return at the same time, The Hunting Party season 2 will take the final timeslot of the night.

There is likely another Law & Order break coming

NBC hasn’t been overly clear with its plans in February, but we know that another break in the schedule is likely coming. The Winter Olympic Games will start on Friday, Feb. 6, and from that point, NBC will air coverage throughout the day and night. This is sure to put all shows on hold while NBC gives sports fans what they want.

It’s annoying for us wanting more Law & Order, but it does make sense. NBC is still a business, and they need to put on the content people are going to tune in for to make more money via the advertisers.

There is something good to come from this, though. With a break in February, it will help to space out the episodes available. This helps to limit the on-off schedule that we usually get between January and May, so it could be a win-win situation for us as well.

Law & Order is available to stream on Peacock to catch up on and will return on Thursday, Jan. 8.
