It’s bad news for fans of The Hunting Party as the second season won’t be coming this fall after all! Why is it delayed?
The Hunting Party was a surprise success for NBC when it premiered in early 2025. The thriller ran for just 10 episodes, wrapping up its run in early April. While the ratings were good, there were concerns it might be another short-lived series for the network.
Instead, The Hunting Party survived for a second season with plans to premiere in fall 2025. Not only that, the show would be put on Thursday nights following Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. That would be a good way to get more eyes on the show.
However, it looks like that won’t be happening as NBC just shuffled their schedule!

When will The Hunting Party premiere?
NBC just announced their premiere dates for the fall 2025 season, which reveals that Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU will both premiere on Thursday, Sept. 25. However, they’ll now be followed by Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5, which aired on Peacock earlier this year.
This means once again Thursdays are an all Law & Order night. The Hunting Party is now going to premiere at midseason, with no exact date set yet, but presumably in January.
That’s a bit of a disappointment to fans who enjoyed the thriller where an ex-FBI agent (Melissa Roxburgh) joins a team to track down killers who escaped from a top-secret underground prison. It’s complicated by the fact all these killers are supposedly dead and the secret behind who’s running the prison.
The Hunting Party Season 2 promised to explore more of the hunt and the secrets so fans may be miffed they have to wait longer for answers. Why is NBC delaying the show?

Why is The Hunting Party season 2 being delayed?
A likely reason for delaying The Hunting Party is that the show is moving production from Vancouver to New York City. That may have caused some complications that meant production for season 2 couldn’t get underway in time to meet a September premiere date.
NBC might also recognize that the show worked well as a midseason series rather than thrust into the busy fall schedule opposite other premieres (the show would be up against Grey’s Anatomy and Elsbeth). Waiting until midseason would allow the show to get a good start.
That’s added on by how NBC will be adding NBA games to their weekly TV schedule. They also will have both the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics taking up most of its schedule in February.
This means The Hunting Party would benefit from heavy promotion by the network through those events, which could potentially delay its premiere date until spring 2026. Hopefully, it can follow the trend of shows airing a full season without any interruptions or reruns for more audience attention.
So, fans of The Hunting Party will sadly need to wait until 2026 for the hunt to continue although hopefully it will be worth the wait.
The Hunting Party is available to stream on Peacock.
