When Tracker first started, we knew that there was a huge mystery surrounding Colter’s father. We’re two seasons deep, and we’ve only just had confirmation that he was murdered.

The Shaw family mystery continues to gain more questions than answers. That was certainly the case in the Tracker season 2 finale, when we learned that Mary was involved in Ashton’s murder. However, she didn’t kill him, but she was somehow involved in Otto being the one to do it.

What’s not clear is whether there was some sort of affair going on, or whether this is a deeper government conspiracy. The good news is Tracker season 3 should bring some answers.

Trust Fall
“Trust Fall” – While searching for missing campers, Colter meets a retired police officer who believes a serial killer is on the loose, on the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, Nov. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/ 8:30-9:30 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+(live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Tracker season 3 won’t start with answers about Ashton

What we do know is that we don’t get answers about Ashton’s murder in the first episode. Mary and Otto aren’t involved in the Tracker season 3 premiere, but another member of the Shaw family is. Russell Shaw is back, and that will mean at least a small conversation about everything Colter has learned.

Russell doesn’t have a lot of respect for his mom based on everything that’s happened. At least, we can’t imagine that he does. After all, Mary was the reason Colter held Russell at arm’s length, making Colter believe that Russell was involved in Ashton’s death for so long.

While we won’t get answers right away, there is some hope that some answers will come out. They need to come out, because at this point, the Shaw family mystery is just dragging on.

The Disciple
“The Disciple” – A new lead in Colter’s white whale case, the disappearance of Gina Picket, brings him and retired cop Keaton back together to track down a serial killer, on the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, Feb. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+(live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. We will learn what Ashton was up to in Tracker

While speaking with TVLine, showrunner Elwood Reid has confirmed that we will, at least, find out what Ashton was up to. We know that he was involved in some sort of government conspiracy. He rushed to get his family off the grid for some reason, and this wasn’t because he had gone crazy. There was a reason he was hiding them away from the world and teaching them survivalist skills. It’s time for Colter and Russell to get some answers.

“What was the father involved in — we’re going to answer that — and how much do you blame your mother for her actions?”

There is also the question of Mary’s involvement and whether she can be blamed for her actions. I guess that comes to why she did whatever she did. It’s not like we even know that she definitely organized the death of her husband, but it’s possible that she was manipulated into doing something. We may get some answers about that.

Tracker season 3 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 8/7c on CBS.
