Matlock boss wants to add Yellowjackets and FBI: Most Wanted stars to the series

Matlock boss Jennie Snyder Urman has some high hopes for the series cast.

They always say to dream big, and that’s exactly what Matlock showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman is doing. She has some dreams for casting in mind, and we can’t really blame her when you look into those dreams in more details.

She shared some of her casting wishes with TVLine, and it turns out that she wants to add a Yellowjackets star and an FBI: Most Wanted star to her list of cast members. While one of those may be a little tricky right now, we can see why she wants to do it.

Jennie Snyder Urman wants to add the Matlock spouses to the cast

It turns out that she has her eyes on the spouses of two of the Matlock stars. The harder one of the two to get is likely Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey, who happens to be Jason Ritter’s wife. Of course, Yellowjackets is (unsurprisingly) a huge success, and the series is still going.

That being said, it’s a streaming show, so it is possible to get the actress for even just a guest appearance. Maybe she could play some sort of long-lost love for Ritter’s Julian, or maybe someone who always hated him in high school knowing what he can really be like.

The other star Snyder Urman wants is Edwin Hodge, who just finished his run on FBI: Most Wanted. He is the husband of Skye P. Marshall, so there’s definitely a theme going on here. Yes, this one is a little easier to do as FBI: Most Wanted has just come to an end, and there are no plans to add any of the cast to the new spinoff series CIA.

“Obviously I want Melanie Lynskey (Jason Ritter’s wife and a Yellowjackets star) to come on and play a fun character, and I want Edwin Hodge (Skye P. Marshall’s husband and very recently of FBI: Most Wanted) to come on and play a fun character…,”

The Circle Game
“The Circle Game” - The Fugitive Task Force hunts down a rogue government operative group that is planning a domestic terror attack. Also, the team prepares for big changes, on the series finale of FBI: MOST WANTED, Tuesday, May 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Matlock season 2 needs to answer a lot of questions about Julian and Olympia

Of course, there needs to be a story there to bring the two on in Matlock season 2. At least there are some big storylines to come with the way the first season ended. Matlock season 1 saw Julian confess to hiding the Welbrexa study, and he wanted Olympia to hand him the document so that he could burn it. She seemed to consider doing that, but will Olympia go against her own moral compass?

It’s possible that now she’s been made partner she may have to go along with this. Julian’s dad always knew that he had his son in his back pocket. Now he can use Olympia as a scapegoat if the time comes, and this could be that time if she’s not careful. She might need a handsome FBI agent to help her out, and while Matlock and FBI: Most Wanted aren’t in the same universe, we can always dream.

Matlock will return on Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS in fall 2025.
