We are more than ready to see Matlock season 2, but we know we have a lengthy wait. The season 1 finale has aired, and now we need to wait a few months for the Matlock season 2 premiere.
In some good news, CBS has made it clear that we don’t need to wait exceptionally long for this series. Despite not announcing its full fall schedule just yet, we now know that the Kathy Bates-led series will arrive in fall 2025.
The teaser promo for the second season made this clear. It’s the latest of the teases that confirm a fall premiere date for shows.
When could we expect Matlock season 2 to premiere?
Now eyes are on the time in the fall that we can expect to see the new episodes. This could be anywhere from the last couple of weeks of September into October. CBS hasn’t been traditional with its schedule for the last few years. Now yes, the pandemic and then the writers and actors strikes threw the schedules off for all networks, but the fall 2024 schedule was the first time it could be “normal” and CBS didn’t opt for that.
Matlock got a special premiere in September after a football game. It aired on a Sunday before moving to Thursdays in October. We will probably see something more traditional in the sense that there won’t be a special premiere after a football game. This is usually reserved for a new series that CBS wants to see perform well, so we could see it for Boston Blue or Sheriff Country, for example.
As for Matlock, we’re likely looking at it remaining on Thursday nights and premiering either late September or early October.
What to expect in Matlock season 2
Now we’re getting into some spoilers from the Matlock season 1 finale if you haven’t seen it yet.
The finale brought us some major reveals about the Wellbrexa case. Sure enough, it was Julian who hid the documents, but it doesn’t look like he did it for money. It looks like he wanted his father’s approval and support to be eventually named partner.
Now Olympia has to make a choice. Will she turn Julian into the cops, or will she support him as the father of her children?
Meanwhile, Matty and Edwin got a visit from someone. Alfie managed to find his biological father. At least, potentially. Now they’ll all need to sit down and talk this through.
Matlock will return in fall 2025 on CBS.
