With Olympia learning the truth, it was finally time for Matty to get answers about who took the Wellbrexa document. Did we get answers in the Matlock season 1 finale?

Over the course of two hours, we had two major storylines running. The first was Sarah’s first murder case, which she was able to win in the end. The second was the big mystery from the entire season. With Olympia now knowing who Matty is and what she’s doing, it was time for them to team up.
It wasn’t a team up that they wanted, at least, not from Olympia’s point of view. However, Olympia needed to know if the father of her children was the villain that Matty was making him out to be. Did he take a payout from Senior to hide the Wellbrexa document that could have shut down the opioids before they killed Ellie?
Olympia followed the money in the trust in the Matlock season 1 finale
After accepting that maybe Julian didn’t get the money from his mom to buy the townhouse, Olympia decided to check the bank accounts. She didn’t know Julian’s password, though, so she had to find another way. What about talking to Julian’s mom.
Well, that told her that maybe his mom did approve the access to the trust. The woman didn’t remember, and she wasn’t going to just say her son was lying.
So, Olympia had to find another way to follow the money. That came via heading over to the bank, and she made sure she had all the banking security questions and Edwin available to answer a call so that Edwin could pretend to be Julian to give Olympia access to the trusts.
Well, the trust documents made it clear that there was no payout. Julian didn’t take money from his dad to hide the Wellbrexa study.
What was in the security deposit box in Matlock
Just as Olympia was about to leave, Denise at the bank offered Olympia access to the security deposit box. That was news to Olympia, so she decided to check it out. Sure enough, that’s where the Wellbrexa study was.
Of course, it couldn’t be as simple as Olympia getting out of the bank with the documents to prove her ex-husband had been involved. Julian walked in, and he realized that he needed to come clean. He shared that he was young, and he just wanted approval from his dad. Everything Matty had figured out was true. Senior rushed to Australia when Julian found out about the study and then got Julian to hide the documents. He wanted the approval so much that he broke the law, and then he kept the documents.
What happened to Olympia in the Matlock season 1 finale?
Julian shared that he was now a changed man. The document in the safe deposit box was the only proof that this had been taken. They could shred it now and go back to it all.
For a while, it looked like Julian was going to hurt Olympia, but then it looked like Olympia would decide to choose Julian and her children over everything else. At the heart of her, Olympia is a mother, and all she wants is to make their lives positive and happy.
We end the season without any real answers. Julian isn’t arrested in the way we thought would happen, but Olympia is still holding some of the cards.
Matty and Edwin are in for a shock at the end of the episode
That wasn’t the only cliffhanger at the end of the Matlock season 1 finale. Alfie comes to his grandparents with an apology, sharing that he may have done something “that was a bridge too far.” Before he can tell them, the doorbell rings.
Matty thinks that it’s Olympia, who was supposed to be coming over after the bank. Olympia had called about no money trail, but she hadn’t called back to say there was a safe deposit box, so Matty has no idea what it going on at the bank right now.
Well, it wasn’t Olympia. A man stands there, someone who Matty doesn’t recognize. He shares that somehow Alfie found him, and there’s a chance that he’s Alfie’s father and he wants to meet his son. Matty welcomes the man into the house, and we’ll need to wait for Matlock season 2 to find out how that will play out.
Matlock is available to stream on Paramount+, and a short teaser for Matlock season 2 says that it will arrive in the fall.
