I started to feel a little bad for Julian in Matlock season 2 episode 5, as he is being manipulated and forced to second-guess himself when it comes to dealing with Matty and Olympia. However, then I remember what he actually did and what he’s capable of. So, I’m all for Matty and Olympia working against him.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Matlock season 2 episode 5

The latest episode of Matlock makes it clear that Matty and Olympia are on the same side. For now, at least. They don’t quite trust each other, and it’s hard to tell which side Olympia’s loyalties actually lie, but she does want to get the truth out there eventually after bringing Senior down. So, for now, she needs to be on Matty’s side.

Matty and Olympia cover their tracks in Matlock season 2 episode 5

And so, it leads to Matty and Olympia having to work together to cover tehir tracks. Julian comes to Olympia with everything that he thinks is going on, which allows Olympia to feed the information back to Matty. To make Julian think that she’s not on Matty’s side, she even shares that she is sure that Matty did something, but she needs to get into Matty’s phone to do all this.

Well, that’s exactly what Matty and Olympia want Julian to do. So, when Julian overhears a call between Matty and a man named Carl, who she says is Alfie’s tutor, Julian plays right into their hands. In fact, Matty even hands her his phone so that he can look through all of her messages to prove that she isn’t the one behind the leak.

Julian isn’t convinced, though, as he asks a text guy about faking text messages. Yes, it can be done, and he’s sure that Matty has done this. He even tells Olympia as much.

Olympia and Matty continue to cover their tracks

Julian should probably stop talking to Olympia. After all, with Julian still on Matty’s case and even saying that he wants to get back into Mrs. B’s laptop to prove that the texts were faked, Matty manages to get to the laptop and put everything she needs on there. Well, Carl does, because he’s so smart to be able to manage it.

But way, Julian can use Olympia’s partner code to access the security cameras. You see, when he gets to the laptop, he realizes that it’s warm, and so, it must have been recently used. The cameras will show Matty walking into Mrs. B’s office, right?

Again, Matty and Olympia have considered this, and Matty told Carl about the camera. The camera footage is wiped, so only Julian walking into the office is shown.

This is when I feel a little for Julian, because he clearly thinks he’s going a little bit mad. Olympia is gaslighting him, and he knows that something is wrong. As someone who has been in Julian’s position, I totally get it, but at the same time, Julian landed himself in this mess. He needs to be on board with taking his dad down no matter what, and that means working with Matty and Olympia rather than trying to drive the two women apart.

However, Olympia hates hurting her ex-husband, and she wants to bring Senior down as fast as possible. Matty agrees to that and even shares that she hated lying to Olympia for so long. She would like to be friends with Olympia after all this, but Olympia isn’t sure she wants that. While it’s heartbreaking, it is important to show that while Matty was doing terrible things for the right reasons, she was still doing terrible things, and some of those things can’t necessarily be forgiven.

Sarah learns a hard truth about her mom

While all this is going on, Sarah has an awkward elevator ride with her mom and Gary, her mom’s boyfriend. After this ride, Gary stops to ask Sarah if he can have her permission to ask her mom to marry him. This is bad timing since she has a case to go into.

It doesn’t really matter, since Gary was likely to propose anyway. This is when Sarah’s mom admits an awful truth. She had an affair with Gary, and now Sarah has to deal with the fact that her mom cheated on her dad. That’s something no child should have to deal with, and it’s about time parents think about how their actions like these affect their children!
