It’s been a fair wait for Matlock season 2, but it’s finally here. The show will premiere on a special night, so you’ll need to make sure you’re ready for changes. As this year, CBS is assuming you’ll watch right away.
Matlock season 1 ended with some major cliffhangers. Olympia learned that her husband, Julian, was involved in the Wellbrexa scandal, and now she needs to figure out whether to protect him or not. He’s really an ex-husband, but the divorce is still going through the process, and this could complicate things.
Meanwhile, Matty will have to deal with Alfie’s potential biological dad turning up at the door. Alfie likely realizes the mistake that he’s made, especially by keeping his search quiet. This could create a new custody battle for Alfie, and it could threaten Matty’s secret at the law firm even more.

If you’re ready to tune in live every single week, then you’ll need to know of the special time for the premiere episode. Matlock season 2 will premiere on Sunday Oct. 12. It will air straight after the CBS NFL game that afternoon, meaning that it airs at 8:30 p.m. ET. Since there’s no game that runs that late on the West Coast, it will premiere at 8 p.m. PT.
After that, the show will move back to Thursday nights. That starts on Thursday, Oct. 16 with the second episode of the season. Matlock isn’t the only show getting this special treatment, with Elsbeth season 3 following suit.
You’ll be able to watch Matlock season 2 on Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS once again. There are plenty of options to watch live, including via your regular cable, something like Fubo TV or Sling TV, or even with Paramount+ with the live feature.

Do you need to watch the show the following day? The good news is Matlock heads to Paramount+ on Fridays after new episodes air. The release time is usually at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.

What to expect in Matlock season 2
The second season is set to be filled with drama and threats of secrets coming out. Olympia has some of the power this season, holding onto the Wellbrexa study that Julia hid. Matty will have a lot of questions about why Olympia wouldn’t turn her husband in, but it’s surely linked to the children.
Matty will also need to deal with Alfie’s biological dad possibly turning up, while also needing to deal with the continued lie that she’s been telling. Her husband is struggling with keeping the lie going, especially when they originally had a plan to leave once the truth was uncovered. What’s going to happen when Matty goes against that?
Matlock season 2 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 12 before moving to Thursdays on CBS.
