When Matlock season 1 came to an end, Olympia had a huge decision to make. Would she side with Matty or with Julian? Well, the Matlock season 2 premiere synopsis tells us all.
CBS has revealed the synopses for all its returning and new fall shows. Of course, Matlock is on the list, and considering it was the top new show for CBS last year, of course, it’s getting a great timeslot and premiere date.
I do think CBS has been a little shortsighted in the synopsis for Matlock, though, as it spoils a major cliffhanger from the first season. We now know the decision Olympia will make.
Who is Olympia siding with in Matlock season 2?
The synopsis initially focuses on Matty’s storyline, which makes sense. She is the titular character, and there’s nothing all that surprising about her actions. She wants to make sure the man Alfie thinks is his father is actually his father.
As for Olympia, we find out that she will choose Julian. At the end of Matlock season 1, she found the documents from the Wellbrexa case in a safe deposit box. Julian pleaded with her to hand over the documents so that they could continue to forget about it all, and we left not knowing if she was going to choose the father of her children or do the right thing.
Well, she’s choosing Julian. In the synopsis, we learn that she will try to protect Julian from the Wellbrexa case. I guess it does make sense that she would choose Julian, especially considering he is the father of her children. By exposing him, she exposes her whole life and she exposes her children to the horrors of what can happen when an upstanding member of society is torn down.
However, it’s not going to be easy for her. While she sent a text to tell Matty that she didn’t find anything in the documents, she didn’t make it to Matty’s house to discuss next steps. Of course, Matty is going to question why Olympia is likely to want to drop the entire investigation, and she’ll know that Olympia has learned something incriminating about Julian.
It’s a whole new mystery in Matlock
Based on the one image (at the top of this post) for Matlock season 2, we can see that Matty is still at the law firm. That means that Olympia hasn’t completely turned on Matty just yet, but how long will that last? Olympia knows that Matty is a fraud, but she’ll also need to keep Kathy Bates’s character on her side. Matty is a smart woman and will work out the truth.
So, Olympia choosing Julian sets up a whole new mystery for Matty to unravel in the second season. At the same time, it sets up more threats of her being exposed. Despite being spoiled about who Olympia sides with after the season 1 finale, I’m excited about season 2.

Matlock season 2 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT and will then move to Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS.
