Murder in a Small Town isn't on tonight (and there's more bad news)
TV shows continue to remind us that heading to small towns is a bad idea. Murder in a Small Town certainly confirmed that throughout its first season.
We start this post with some bad news. There isn’t a new episode on tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 3. As much as we would love to jump into another murder case with Karl Alberg, FOX has other plans. We get a double-bill of Accused.
There is more bad news, though. That was the last episode of 2024. It may even be the last episode, as we now wait for news about whether Murder in a Small Town will be renewed or not.
Murder in a Small Town season 1 has come to an end
The FOX series has come to an end for its first season. Yes, there were only eight episodes filmed. This is a joint venture with a Canadian network, so it makes sense. A lot of Canadian dramas opt for a length that matches streaming and British shows rather than the full seasons that Americans are used to.
That means we have no more episodes in 2024. There is a chance there won’t be more next year, but for now, we get to keep our hopes up.
Will Murder in a Small Town be renewed for season 2?
There isn’t a decision on the fate of the series just yet. The linear ratings haven’t been too bad for the network, which could mean that it is renewed. It is likely on the more affordable side of things compared to a few other shows out there.
If the series is ending with season 1, the finale did wrap plenty up. We got answers to who the serial killer in town was, and we saw Alberg catch the man. There was also the conversation between Alberg and Cassandra that we needed.
There was a point we worried about what Roger would do and whether we would end up with a love triangle, but Roger turned out to be a decent guy. He showed Cassandra how much he knew her and encouraged her to be with Karl.
However, there may be trouble for their relationship. Cassandra wants to run for Town Council, setting up a great storyline for season 2. She shared that she would likely focus on police oversight, and that’s where the relationship issues could come into play.
