If there’s one show that many have looked forward to, it’s Murder in a Small Town. The second season of the FOX drama has been a highlight of Tuesday nights, and we’re looking forward to more.
Well, this is where we run into some disappointing news. The FOX January 2026 schedule is out, and Murder in a Small Town isn’t on it. There’s a major reason for that, and you’re not going to like it.
Murder in a Small Town airs its season finale soon
It’s that time of year when TV shows go on their winter breaks, with the majority of them returning in January. Sadly, that’s not the case for Murder in a Small Town season 2, which doesn’t have what is considered traditionally as a full season. With just 10 episodes, the Murder in a Small Town season 2 finale will air on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
This is very much like other Canadian dramas, especially ones that Kristin Kreuk has starred in. We just have to turn to Burden of Proof to see that the seasons are shorter.
The finale is set to be a big episode, with Karl warning Cassandra not to get involved in a case that appears to be one that involves revenge as a motive. However, Cassandra can’t help herself, and it looks like Karl will need to work double-time to save her — and potentially his own daughter.
Murder in a Small Town hasn’t been renewed for season 3 yet
Not only is this the last episode of 2025, but it could be the last episode forever. Murder in a Small Town season 3 still hasn’t been confirmed, although we’re hoping that it will be.
This is a Canadian series at its heart, though, so it’s not really fully up to FOX whether it is renewed or not. It needs to be renewed by Canada’s Global network as well. Of course, if FOX is happy with the performance, it could take over the production of it, but that’s unlikely to happen.
It’s hard to tell if the show will be renewed or not. It’s one of those that isn’t widely talked about, and it is scoring a little average in the reviews. There have been some reports that season 3 is happening, but the link to those reports is now a dead one, suggesting that it isn’t true. No major publications are reporting anything positive just yet.
