NBC opts to cancel Found after 2 seasons (but there may be some hope)

NBC has made the wrong call on the future of Found.

In more disappointing news, NBC has canceled Found after two seasons. This is the one cancellation I did not want to see happen in the 2024–2025 TV season!

Like The Irrational, which has also been canceled, Found was a strike contingency series. It aired in fall 2023 when very few programs were ready, and it performed well out of the gate. However, the second season didn't quite hold up to the same standards in the linear ratings, and that has contributing to the cancellation of the show.

Why NBC canceled Found after two seasons

It's not just due to the linear ratings, though. NBC needs to make room for the NBA programming next season. This means three-hours of programming on Tuesday need to move elsewhere, with Night Court and The Irrational from this season's Tuesday night lineup currently being taken off the air.

Found has now landed in that same boat, partly due to the linear ratings. Let's be honest, though; NBC didn't give the series a fair shot this year. We had some odd scheduling decisions, with the show moving to Monday for a week with little warning. The warning was buried within other articles for the most part, although we tried to make sure fans were aware of the change.

Found could be shopped around

While the linear ratings weren't strong, the streaming ratings were. In fact, many people thought that Found was a Peacock Original Series, and this is something that Warner Bros, the producing studio, will want to pay attention to. It shows that it may find new life as a streaming series.

The obvious new home would be Peacock, but if NBC wanted to save it in some way, it would have announced that decision. As it's a Warner Bros. show (and the network could shop it around, according to Deadline), Max would be a great home for it. This series is a little darker and grittier than a lot of network TV, and Max has some similar content.

Paramount+ would be another great home. After all, it's the place where the dark Criminal Minds: Evolution airs.

Found needs to be saved by someone

All I will say is that this show needs to be saved. It is one of the most important shows on TV right now, and not just due to its inclusive casting. The series brings up the important topic of people going missing and then being forgotten about.

It also puts the focus on recovery after trauma. Each of the M&A team members have been through some sort of trauma, and they support each other through PTSD and flashbacks. They show the realities of how traumatic events change a person and shape their lives in the future, and TV needs to do that more.

Found is available to stream on Peacock.
