NCIS: Origins season 2 is now on a break for the rest of 2025 (but we know when it's back)

There is some disappointing news. After eight excellent episodes of NCIS: Origins season 2, the show is heading out on a break. There are no more new episodes of the series in 2025.

However, there are new episodes of the other shows in the NCIS universe. Both NCIS season 23 and NCIS: Sydney season 3 will air their fall finales on Tuesday, Dec. 16. It likely means that Origins is slightly shorter than the other two in terms of number of episodes in their seasons, and airing the fall finale a week earlier is the best way to handle that.

NCIS: Origins season 2 will return in 2026

There is some good news mixed in with the bad. There are still more episodes to the season, and we’ll get them in 2026.

Usually, we would see the shows return in January, but that’s not the plan for CBS in 2026. NCIS: Origins season 2 episode 9 will air on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the usual time of 9/8c.

This is linked to the Winter Olympics. While there are some networks bringing shows back in January, they will be forced to go on a break in February for the Olympics. NBC will air the Games, but very few networks will want to go up against the sporting fixtures.

That can lead to consistency problems to keep people on the schedule. So, CBS has opted to make the winter break a longer one, with the shows coming back once the Winter Olympics are over. This is great news on the other side of it, as it means very few weeks off before the finales air in May!

What to expect when NCIS: Origins returns

Of course, there is nothing known about the show when it returns. We’re simply too far away from February for the series and CBS to want to reveal anything.

We’ve just had the NCIS: Origins season 2 fall finale, which focused on Lala as she feared for the worst when her favorite CI was shot. It was a beautiful look at how Lala views her CIs, and how those relationships are fostered for all.

There’s no doubt that NCIS: Origins has been one of the strongest shows of the year so far. It continues to build up the various characters, rather than just make it about Gibbs’s time as a probie in NIS. What we do know is that we’ll get to meet the Fed Five very soon, as NCIS: Origins has just rounded out the casting, meaning a young Dwayne Pride will grace our screens soon.

NCIS: Origins is available to stream on Paramount+.
