SWAT fans finally have news when the final season of the hit drama hits Netflix, and it’s sooner than you think!

SWAT has to rank as one of the odder TV show survivors in recent times. In a whirlwind 72 hours in May 2023, fans of the hit series were rocked by the news that CBS had canceled the show before its sixth season finale, meaning it wouldn’t even be a real series finale.

The backlash was so massive that CBS quickly reversed course and confirmed SWAT would be back for a 13-episode 7th and final season. That was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes to premiere in early 2024. Before that finale, CBS surprised many by giving the show an eighth season.

That aired in 2024-25 with fans hopeful the show would get another renewal. That was driven by the series becoming successful when the first six seasons were released on Netflix. While the show was canceled, season 7 did debut on Netflix in early 2025.

SWAT season 8 is coming to Netflix

Now it’s confirmed that SWAT season 8 will drop on Netflix on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and let viewers finally be able to binge on the entire show in one place!

SWAT being on Netflix is interesting, as usually, CBS shows only air on Paramount+. There are a few exceptions, such as FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International streaming on Peacock, as they’re owned by Dick Wolf Productions.

In SWAT’s case, it’s not a CBS production but owned by Sony Entertainment. That gives them the freedom to license the series to Netflix as well as Paramount+, and the series has found success with viewers of the streamer.

SWAT season 8 has 20-Squad handling the arrival of new member Devin Gamble (Anne Ilonzeh). The daughter of a cop-killer and gang leader, Gamble fights to prove herself with a plotline of her dealing with doubts about her loyalty as a cop.

The rest of the season has the team handling the usual mix of high-stakes missions and tense events. Storylines include Hondo handling his troublesome cousin, Deacon getting an obsessive stalker, Tan’s teaching at the SWAT academy going bad and Hicks getting into a political fight that could cost him his career.

It’s notable that the finale isn’t really an “end of an era” story with the team still going on jobs. There are plans underway for SWAT: Exiles, a sequel series with Hondo leading a new team. There’s no streaming home for that yet, with the possibility it could debut on Netflix alongside the past seasons.

At least SWAT fans can circle mid-September for being able to watch the entire show on Netflix and enjoy this hit show in full.

SWAT season 8 debuts on Netflix on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
