There is no doubt that we’re ready to see 20-Squad back in action. There is some disappointing news when it comes to SWAT season 8 tonight, Friday, April 25.
Sadly, there isn’t going to be a new episode of the series tonight. Nor will there be a rerun. However, there are still episodes to the season, and this break isn’t a long one.
Why isn’t SWAT on tonight?
CBS is getting closer to the end of the current TV season. A few shows have already come to an end, and a couple are wrapping up their seasons tonight. One of those is Fire Country, which usually doesn’t get in the way of SWAT. It’s the lead-in series, but tonight, it’s going to take up two hours for its finale.
It’s not clear why CBS has decided on a two-hour finale in one night rather than stretching out the episodes. Matlock also got a two-hour finale episode on Thursday, April 17, but FBI: International and Watson’s two-part finales are spread across two nights.
Whatever the reason, CBS has made it, and we need to wait a little bit for a new episode of the series.
When will SWAT return with new episodes?
We only need to wait a week for the new episode of the series. It’s going to air at the earlier time of 9 p.m. ET/PT, due to both NCIS: Sydney and Fire Country wrapping their seasons this week. Hollywood Squares will kick off the night, and then Shemar Moore’s series will air before a rerun of Fire Country. It makes sense to do this, and the same thing has on Thursdays with Elsbeth moving forward into Matlock’s timeslot.
There are three episodes left when the series returns on Friday, May 2. Well, technically there are four episodes, but there are three weeks. The SWAT series finale is a two-hour finale airing on Friday, May 16.
SWAT will return on Friday, May 2 at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up on the series on Paramount+.
