Friday nights still aren’t quite the same. We would love to see the new case that 20-Squad needs to solve, but that’s not happening tonight, Friday, Jan. 24. The good news is that new episodes of SWAT are just around the corner.
Going into the winter break, we knew that it was going to be a long one. CBS opted to take off almost the whole of January from its regular schedule, and that is a good thing in the long-term. It just doesn’t feel like it right now.
What’s on instead of new SWAT tonight?
In some good news, we’ll still get to check in with 20-Squad tonight. While there isn’t a new episode of the series, there is a rerun on. It’s a rerun of the Nov. 8 episode, which saw the city suffer a blackout. Of course, that leads to a lot of crime and trouble, and it was up to 20-Squad to help keep order in the streets.
What was supposed to be a regular patrol day was thrown off when there was a terror threat. Hondo and the rest of 20-Squad worked together to bring down the terrorists and prevent anything happening to the people of Los Angeles.
When will SWAT return with new episodes?
There is only one week until a new episode of the series airs. SWAT season 8’s winter premiere will air on Friday, Jan. 31. Yes, this is still the date, despite NCIS: Sydney season 2’s premiere being moved.
There is the important caveat of SWAT season 8 bring moved to a later timeslot. Make sure you tune in at 10 p.m. ET/PT. CBS has tried to get us ready for that with the Friday night lineup of reruns. The series has moved to the later timeslot to bring us what is set to be the regular schedule.
When the series returns, it will be with an episode titled “Open Season.” A deadly enemy from Hondo’s past is going to resurface, and this person is intent on revenge. Is it someone we know from a previous season of the series, or is this someone from Hondo’s pre-show past? It’s hard to tell from the synopsis.
Meanwhile, Tan has made some changes to the way the SWAT Academy runs, and Deacon isn’t happy about those changes. It’s going to lead to the two butting heads. This is likely one of those cases where Deacon needs to accept that by handing over something to someone else means that things are run differently.
SWAT returns on Friday, Jan. 31 at 10/9c on CBS.
