After eight seasons, SWAT has come to an end. There was almost a chance for SWAT season 9 to happen, and the season 8 finale was written as both a season finale and a series finale, just in case. It means that there were open storylines for Deacon and the rest of 20-Squad.
SWAT season 8 saw Deacon deal with a woman stalking him and threatening his family. He was able to catch her, but there weren’t enough episodes to really show us the aftermath of that. Instead, the focus moved onto money as he got a decent signing bonus for his security firm. Using all of that, we have some ideas for storylines for Deacon in SWAT season 9.

Deacon’s security firm could have continued to grow in SWAT season 9
Deacon started his security firm as a way to bring in more cash and to create a retirement plan. It’s something that many other officers have done in their spare time, but Deacon is the one who really seemed to have a business idea that took off. He was able to land a contract with multiple malls by the end of the series.
We could have seen that growth continue, opening doors for other issues arising for Deacon to tackle. There may have been situations that started out in a mall and needed the whole of 20-Squad to deal with. Or maybe we could have seen 20-Squad working for Deacon outside of their regular work, and then having to deal with a situation without their usual SWAT access.

Deacon and Annie could have discussed Heather and other issues in SWAT
It was a shame that Deacon’s arc with Heather wrapped so late on in SWAT season 8. It would have been great to see how he dealt with that personally. After all, Annie had to learn the truth about Heather, and while she fully trusted Deacon, there was a point where she and the kids weren’t safe. This was sure to have an effect on her mentally.
We could have seen her need to have a new security system installed. Maybe something could have happened around the house and she thought it was Heather coming back. In fact, maybe Heather did get released or broke out and became a threat again.
SWAT worked thanks to Annie and Deacon’s relationship. We got a chance to see what a healthy relationship looked like, and so we would have needed more of that if the series continued.
SWAT is available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+.
