911 has such a large cast that we often don’t get a chance to spotlight everyone, especially if there’s a lot happening in the other story arcs. One such case was Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Maddie Han in season 8, and fans are looking forward to seeing more of her, especially now that she has given birth to her second child. What could we expect to see when the show returns for season 9?

Season 8 was big for Maddie, especially upon finding out she was pregnant in the episode, “Confessions.” Even though it was an exciting time for Maddie and her husband, Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi), fans did not get to really see much of them exploring their pregnancy and how different it would be compared to when she was having their daughter, Jee-Yun.

Chimney did express concerns about having a second baby before realizing that Maddie was already pregnant. Despite these concerns, they were still excited to welcome a new addition to the family.

Things did take a dire turn when Maddie was abducted by a serial killer who had called 911, begging for help. Luckily, Maddie was able to survive the experience, despite suffering a slash to the throat. Thankfully, her unborn son also survived and the rest of her pregnancy went smoothly.

9-1-1 - “Don’t Drink the Water” - Following an earthquake, the 118 races to the scene of several unusual fires and must figure out their cause before anyone else is hurt. Meanwhile, as everyone settles into their new normal, they try to move forward and plan for the future. THURSDAY, MAY 8 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. What path did season 8 lead to for Maddie Han on 911 for season 9?

Unfortunately, the family suffered the loss of Chimney’s captain, Bobby Nash, who had also been the one to officiate their wedding in 911 season 7, episode 6, “There Goes the Groom.” Chimney and the rest of the 118 had been called to a lab fire that turned deadly when they were exposed to Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, which affected Chimney and, unknown to everyone else until it was too late, Bobby.

Chimney was deeply affected by what happened, especially since he had asked Bobby to make sure his family was taken care of. He dealt with survivor’s guilt and grief while the team fractured apart. All the while, Maddie was a source of strength for her husband and was there for her loved ones, especially in a sweet moment with her brother, Evan Buckley (Oliver Stark).

Maddie gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, who was introduced as Robert Nash Han. It was a touching gesture to a man who meant so much to the couple, both individually and together.

Fans are looking forward to following the Han family as we go into season 9. There will surely be some fun storylines with Jee getting used to being a big sister. Plus, we always love seeing Uncle Buck moments with his niece, so we’re sure seeing him with baby Robert will also be a joy for those who love these family bonding moments.

9-1-1 - “The Last Alarm” - Following the tragic events at the lab, the 118 must come together to lay their fallen hero to rest. Meanwhile, despite her own grief, Athena re-investigates the death of a child to help a grieving mother. THURSDAY, MAY 1 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. We also hope there will be more time to spend on Chimney and Maddie together, especially since they are one of the most beloved pairings on the show. Maddie also tends to have scenes mainly at dispatch or with Buck, which is never a bad thing. But we do love seeing them explore her relationship with characters like Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds) and Athena Grant (Angela Bassett). So we would love to see them explore more of her relationships in that regard as well.

Plus, her relationship with her brother has always been a joy for fans to watch and it would be great to see how she supports him as he continues to move forward, especially in the wake of losing Bobby as a father figure himself.

There could also be some great storyline potential to follow Maddie to see how motherhood is different for her after her experience with Jee. She had severe post partum depression that was brought on due to a thyroid condition. With help and treatment, she was able to recover. We could see how she does the second time around now that she knows what to look out for.

All in all, we do want to see more for Maddie when it comes to season 9. She has come a long way since she first joined in season 2 and we are excited to see what comes next for her character.
